Wendy celebrated her 50th birthday last September in a tranquil setting with her family and friends and I was delighted not only to be invited to share her celebration with her but also to make the cupcakes for her special day. Wendy’s only requests were that they were to have a floral theme, that I used shades of blue to match the arrangements of roses that she had specifically ordered for the tables and that I decorated some of the cupcakes with a sugarpaste topping and the others with buttercream. This was the 2nd time I had done sugarpaste covered cupcakes and the result was dainty and beautiful blue cupcakes that were perfect for the occasion. Wendy is a vivacious, cheerful and loyal person and is always gracious and complementary about the skills and talents of all her family and friends and her celebration was a perfect tribute to the beautiful woman that she is.

Gallery of Cupcakes!
With all the house and kitchen alterations last year, my baking continued but my blogging was erratic and not all my cupcakes ended up in individual posts. These are some of the cupcakes from last year I made inspired by family and friends for different occasions. Thanks to my wonderful husband we now have a beautiful new home and I have a magnificent new kitchen in which to create beautiful cupcakes and sugar art to delight all my customers. Catherine, you kindly and selflessly loaned us your beautiful home and kitchen for us to continue our lives in while we were out of our own home so thanks to you I was still able to bake and take orders. Ceire’s birthday fell in October just before we moved back home so she had very simple but pretty Green Flower cupcakes to celebrate her birthday.
Other cool orders were for these really cute dog cupcakes celebrating the 1st birthday of a special guide dog and these 50th and 21st combined birthday celebration cupcakes.
Hats and shoes were the order of the day for these Red and Black Mad Hatter Cupcakes, Top Hat Cupcakes and Pink and Peach Cupcakes for a lover of fashion.
Thank you to all my amazing clients of 2013. It is because I am inspired by your celebrations, ideas, personalities and enthusiasm for my cupcakes that I have so much fun creating these different cupcakes for you all. I am looking forward to a fantastic 2014 which has started on a wonderfully busy note and promises to be just as sweet a year as 2013 was.
Clowning Around!
Michelle and Hayley celebrated their birthdays a week apart so we had a joint celebration at scrapbooking for them in October last year. They are both beautiful women so fairies on the cakes would have been totally appropriate but as I was feeling more adventurous and Grace Stevens’ new book Celebration Cakes was beckoning me to try something new I bravely made these 2 clown figurines for the first time. Not sure why I had taken so long to try something new as Grace explains and demonstrates so clearly in her book each step for every figurine. I loved the 2 really naughty and cute clowns that I created and they were a delight sitting on their individual cakes. Their naughty faces and bright cheerful colours were perfect for Michelle and Hayley who are bright characters in our class and always make us smile and laugh with their comments and stories. We work hard but my title for this post “Clowning Around” can definitely be applied to many a Wednesday morning!
