Camping Themed Cupcakes for Luca

Camping Themed Cupcakes

These Camping Themed Cupcakes were such fun to make for Luca’s birthday.  Luca’s birthday theme sounded like so much fun when Alison described the party and it reminded me of the days when my own son was so much younger and received his first tent as one of his presents.  We had to set the tent up for him in his room and he immediately took all his presents and food into the tent and proceeded to camp out in it for the entire night!

As Luca and his friends were going to be taught fire-making skills during his party, I made cupcakes for him with a small fire and flames on them.  For the sticks I used chocolate-covered pretzels which I snapped into shorter pieces and leaned them against each other on the cupcake.  The flames I made from red, orange and yellow sugar paste in different sizes and then placed them behind the sticks.  Luca, I hope you and your friends had as much fun making your own fires as I did making your ‘Fire Cupcakes’!

Smiley Faces for my Smiley Face!

Smiley Face Cupcakes

Saying I Love You with a Cupcake!

My beautiful daughter turned 14 today and I thought it would be cool to have cupcakes to take to school to celebrate with her friends.  They had to be as fun and zany as she is and nothing could be more appropriate than a smiley face for her as she is gregarious, fun-loving and always has a smiley face for all her friends. I made these smiley faces using a chocolate mold and yellow sugar paste.  I drew on the eyes and crazy smile with a black edible pen and added the faces to  yummy chocolate and vanilla iced cupcakes.

Cupcakes for a Golfing Enthusiast!

Golf Ball Cupcakes - 80th Birthday

Tee off with these Cupcakes!

These golf ball cupcakes first appeared on my blog over a year ago when Simeon celebrated his birthday and when we celebrated Father’s Day, so it was fun to be asked to do them again for Jeanine who was celebrating her godfather’s 80th birthday a few weeks ago.  Her colour scheme was silver and blue so I made delicious cappuccino cupcakes with creamy coffee icing in silver cupcake holders and then added half of a giant Geldhof golf ball chocolate to each cupcake.  The blue flags complete the look and I photographed them here with an elegant blue tie.  They could only but taste decadently delicious with the combination of cappuccino and rich Geldhof chocolate.

Cupcakes for an Amazing Friend!

Burgundy Rose Cupcakes

Great and true friends are a treasure to be cherished and Michelle is one of those friends.  In fact I don’t think that her special day on Thursday was long enough to receive all her beautiful birthday messages and calls and also celebrate and open wonderful presents.  Of course Michelle took it all in her stride and certainly celebrated aging another year with grace and style.  When I first spotted these burgundy and green Wilton’s cupcake holders in Kadies, Fourways I knew immediately they were perfect for Michelle’s birthday cupcakes.  I made creamy blueberry, vanilla cupcakes with a vanilla cream cheese icing in green cupcake holders.  I popped them into the beautiful Wilton’s holders once they were baked as this preserves the beautiful colouring of the holders.  Not resisting my instinctual urge to match colours, I made burgundy sugar paste roses, miniature roses and embossed flowers to decorate the cupcakes.

I photographed them above alongside the unusual gift box Michelle gave me for my birthday as well as the Friends plaque that Wendy gave me.  I wondered at first if it is actually polite to say that “The best antiques are Old Friends” but I understand now that friends such as these are like antiques as they are precious, need to be elegantly shown off and talked about (only in the best way possible) and of course treasured for a lifetime!

A Bit of Magic with these Tinkerbell Cupcakes!

Tinkerbell Cupcakes

Iced with Magic!

As the fairy dust lands on Johannesburg and the magic of Tinkerbell is captivating the hearts of little girls in movie houses all over the country, their birthday wishes are for Tinkerbell themed parties.  With these parties come the fairy dresses, Tinkerbell cakes and Tinkerbell cupcakes.  I waved my  magic cupcake wand to make these Tinkerbell cupcakes for a little girl turning 5 and made her wish for cupcakes with Tinkerbell slippers, fairy wands, fairy wings and fairy flowers come true.  I shaped the lime green sugar paste into Tinkerbell slippers with their unique little white baubles and brushed the slippers with a satin finish to make them more ‘magical’.  I had a mold made from cute flower buttons I found recently and they were perfect in pastel sugar paste colours.  Who could not but be transported to a magical fairyland with these cute fairy-themed cupcakes?
