Ooh La La Cupcakes!

Ooh la la Cupcakes

It was brilliant when Jeanine sent me a message after she had collected her previous order to tell me that she could not stop looking at the cupcakes I had made for her friends 50th birthday, see post Staying with lime green for a bit.  It was such a wonderful compliment and I was so pleased when she asked me to do these Ooh La La Cupcakes for her own birthday a couple of weeks later. Jeanine sourced this Ooh la la pack of cupcake liners and poodle cupcake toppers and they were the inspiration for her cupcakes as she loves everything about poodles, France and the colour pink.  I made pink sugarpaste roses, traditional and rolled ones and then iced the raspberry and white chocolate cupcakes in a creamy vanilla icing.  The pink pearls sit pertly on these puffy iced cupcakes along with the pink roses.  For the other half of the cupcakes I coloured the icing with a dash of pink colouring and added black pearl beads in the iced grooves.  I used the poodle cupcake toppers for these cupcakes and then placed all the cupcakes into the fancy French cupcake liners.  A tip here – rather bake your cupcakes in a plain coloured cupcake liner and then pop them once they are cooled into a beautiful printed liner as the cupcake liner will become slightly opaque on baking and the effect of the printed liner will be lost if you bake the cupcake directly in it.  The contrasting liner will only add zhoosh to the colour palette of your decor.

Thanks Jeanine for another interesting and really fun order and I hope you and your guests had an Ooh La La birthday celebration!

Happy Birthday Martin!

Rugby Cupcakes

These were cupcakes I made for Martin’s 15th birthday. He loves to play rugby and supports the Gauteng Lions so I thought he would enjoy these rugby ball cupcakes.  I hope you had a great weekend celebration for your birthday Martin and hope you enjoyed both the vanilla and the nutella cupcakes.

Make-Up Cupcakes for Megan

Thank you Debbie for your order of these delightful cupcakes for your daughter Megan. Megan is celebrating her 14th birthday and having a pyjama party for her friends.  I made similar cupcakes last year for a pamper party so I was really excited when Megan chose a pink, lime green and lavender colour scheme for her cupcakes giving me a chance to do these cupcake toppers in different colours.  I made pink sugarpaste lipsticks in lavender tubes and decorated them with a cute lime green flower.  The eyeshadow palettes are also sugarpaste and were really easy to make using 2 different sized circular cutters.  I decorated the lids with sugarpaste blossoms and brushed them with a satin finish.  Every girl loves nail polish so I made green and pink nail polish bottles with lavender lids and miniature blossoms.  Loads of green, pink and lavender sugar pearls complete these cupcakes and if you listen carefully you can almost hear the giggles of the girls who will be having fun celebrating with Megan tonight.

Make a Raquet with these Cupcakes!

Tennis Cupcakes

What are the odds of doing 2 cupcake orders in one weekend that are both for sporty guys, well the odds were in my favour this time as I had a chance to do sporty cupcakes again on Sunday for Byron’s 18th birthday celebration – 2 all for me1!  I moulded  sugar paste tennis raquets for these cupcakes.  I dusted the strings of the raquets with a glimmer dust to give them their definition and then painted the raquet with red and black food colouring.  For someithing different I iced the other cupcakes with yellow and white icing to resemble tennis ballls.  Thanks Byron for the loan of your raquet and tennis balls for the photographs and hope you had fun  celebrating with your family.

Byron is one of those boys who give him either a cricket, golf, soccer or tennis ball he will be able to excel with it. He has a passion for all these ball sports and plays each of these sports with natural ease.  At the weekend Byron plays golf to relax from the stresses of growing up into a young man but his main focus in his life is his tennis.  Many hours of practise and countless hours on the court means that Byron is  placed  as the Number 1 player at Trinityhouse and his genuine and fun personality makes him a fantastic Trinityhouse tennis captain. Byron you are an inspiration to the players in your team, your opponents and many younger tennis players, you have made your mom and dad extremely proud parents and I know you will go far in life with such dedication to your sport. I have loved watching you grow up from a little gradey kicking a soccer ball around on the field with your friends into such a determined young man. The ball’s in your court now!

Celebrating a Sporting & Musical 50th!

Music Cupcakes

We were invited to celebrate Paul’s 50th birthday with him on Saturday which meant that not only did we get to meet his family and friends and celebrate Paul’s ‘half century’ as he described it, but we also got to see the cupcakes and their related themes enjoyed by all his guests.  When Tracy and Paige were discussing the themes for the party, they came up with the fantastic idea to have a table decorated with each of the different passions in Paul’s life. Having so many passions and accomplishments meant more cupcake challenges for me, loads more photos to take and yes you guessed it … a longer post for these cupcakes!  Aside from Paul’s greatest passion in life, his beautiful wife and gorgeous daughters, he has a love for music. Tracy decorated a music table with music notes, cd’s and a music book to pay tribute to this aspect of Paul’s life and I decorated these music cupcakes with black and red music notes and black and sugar beads.

When he is not singing and playing guitar, Paul puts on his running shoes and trains for his next marathon.  When most of us are still in dreamland he is out on the road with his other dedicated running mates clocking up the kilometres.  These cupcakes with the medals represent the four Comrades Marathons he has run and the shoes represent the hours of training he puts into this sport.  It was appropriate in this case that the flavour of these cupcakes was Passionfruit and White Chocolate for such dedication to running.  I think that only your running mates were brave enough Paul to sit at this table with your running shoes as they could relate to the many hours of love these shoes have given your feet!  Tracy reminded me to include the Voltaren in the photo too as it is a reminder of the pain that goes hand in hand with the ultimate glory of winning your medals.

Paul has to take off his shoes for another passion of his and take bare foot to the water to win medals.  He loves water-skiing and boating and also takes part in open-water swims.  Tracy very cleverly had flippers, swimming goggles and cap for the decoration on the water sports table and I made yellow and blue flippers and water splashes for these cupcakes.  I couldn’t resist photographing them with a blue and yellow glass paper weight I own as it enhanced the water feel of these cupcakes along with my trusted beads from my beaded cake stand. How cute are these flippers which I actually moulded from a glove mould. I cut the yellow sugar  paste ‘glove’ to the same length for the toes and flattened the edges and added blue straps to look like flippers. The water splashes and sugar beads for water droplets gave a bit of aqua energy to these blue and yellow water cupcakes.

Paul is also a dab hand with power tools and when he is not putting his blood, sweat and tears into his sports he gets out his tools and becomes the neighbourhood handyman fixing things around the house.  Occasionally Paul puts his feet up and becomes a couch dad as he loves to watch his favourite sports on TV. Tracy included a table for these sports and I made a couple of cricket, tennis and rugby cupcakes to go with this theme too.

Paul you posed quite a cupcake challenge for your party with so many interests in your life but I thoroughly enjoyed both making and photographing these cupcakes. It was great to see you swop your running shoes and bare feet for your dancing shoes and see you celebrate and have fun with all your guests. Thank you to you and Tracy for inviting us to celebrate with you.

Hello Kitty Cupcakes

Hello Kitty Cupcakes

Blair is a leap year baby, celebrating her birthday every four years on the 29th February. Even though she is a gorgeous talented young lady now she is able to have fun with her birthday celebrations as she officially has only been able to celebrate a few actual birthdays on the 29th February.  This leap year Blair chose Hello Kitty for her party cupcakes.  She mentioned that she really doesn’t like pink so I changed Hello Kitty’s traditional pink bow for a bright red one to match the fire in Blair’s hair and in her passion for her music. The flavours were chocolate and raspberry with white chocolate.  The red in these cupcakes gave me a chance to re-photograph my Hello Kitty cupcakes and I couldn’t resist pairing them with these delectable Hello Kitty American Jelly Beans and this cute Hello Kitty jelly bean holder I found at Woolworths.  Thank you for your order Blair and I hope you and your guests had as much fun eating these cupcakes as I had making and photographing them!
