Grandpa Smith celebrated his birthday in early January this year and his daughter-in-law, Angela, asked me to make a grandfather figurine cake for his special day. I had a photograph of this much loved grandpa and was told that one of his passions is golf so his cake was covered in a soft green sugar paste and I added a sugar paste golf green with its flag and a golf bag, golf club and balls to complete the theme for this cake. Grandpa Smith has a delightfully strong face and his big grey streaked eyebrows frame his friendly eyes and this is what I wanted to capture in this sugar paste figurine. His grey hair and glasses completed the look before I popped him onto his cake.

Grandpa Figurine!
I am posting this Grandpa Figurine today especially to congratulate the awesome grandpa that I made this figurine for. On Friday he became a great grandfather when his daughter gave birth to twins, a baby boy and a baby girl. Not only did this young grandpa celebrate a wonderful birthday celebration last year with his family and friends but he now has an even bigger family with this exciting news!
When Jan, his daughter, ordered this cake for him she wanted his love of clock making, wood work and love of everything mechanical to be portrayed on the cake as well as him sitting in his workshop. The fondant of the cake I made to look like planks of wood and I added the different colour sugar cogs and tools to show his passions in life. Once again it was a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful and well-loved grandpa’s birthday celebration.
