Little Davey was welcomed recently into his new family and I made this cute cake with its miniature and very naughty looking giraffe to celebrate his arrival. The giraffe figurine I based on the cute giraffe in the Pretty Witty Cakes Book of Sugarcraft Characters. Suzi Witt has beautiful clear photos and directions for her Jeremy the Giraffe and I thought he was perfect for Davey’s Cake with his naughty but adorable face. Welcome Davey to your wonderful family and wishing you and your family many precious and joyful times together and of course much laughter and fun with your granny!
About a Boy and His Bear
This was my second figurine class with Vicci of Victoria Bean Bakery and it was fun going from the dainty French Girl Figurine to this one of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh. Not only did we share 2 great days of swopping cake tales and tips but we learned so many valuable techniques once again from Vicci. The tree stump and its mossy mound we made using sugar paste and then paint and I added sugar paste water on my cake board and some edible chocolate rocks as well as the stepping stones. I love his cute innocent face and naughty eyes and of course his Winnie the Pooh bear!
Teddy Cake for Twin Babies!
Sue and Paul’s twin baby girl and boy arrived early to this very excited family and we held a baby shower for Sue and her twins during our Wacky Wednesday Scrapbooking session. There was the cutest array of tiny gifts for these newborn babies and much excitement in sharing them with Sue and of course proud granny, Jan. The perfect topper for this cake for Sue was a tiny pair of sugar paste teddy bears, one in pastel pink and the other in pastel blue. They sat comfortably close to each other on the cake looking inquisitively out at their new world. Wishing Sue and Paul and family all the best with their beautiful newborn babies.
Swimming & Yachting Themed Cake
Heather ordered this cake for her daughter Justine and Justine’s friend Ane. Both girls share a birthday and were having a combined celebration for their 18th birthday before each of them head off to different parts of the world to explore their passions. Justine is leaving shortly for Alabama University to study and continue her swimming training there so I depicted Justine’s figurine wearing her full swimsuit, blue cap and goggles and included a red ‘Alabama’ towel and red lane marker for her new university. Ane’s figurine has dreadlocks and is wearing a hippie dress and headband and is holding her sugar paste rope ready for her yachting adventure this year.
I placed both figurines on the one cake and added pool tiles for Justine at the top of the cake, life buoys, water edging and droplets for both the girls and waves kissing the edges of the cake from the board for Ane. Good luck to you both, Justine and Ane, the world is your oyster and I wish you all the best for the most awesome adventures this year!
Minnie Mouse Cake!
When Mercedes had her first birthday her mom, Zanele, ordered her a pretty pink Minnie Mouse Cake for her special celebration. The cake was a two tier cake with the bottom tier decorated with a pink polka dot skirt with a frilled underlay and the top tier decorated with tiny Minnie faces and a large polka dot pink bow and Minnie ears to complete it. I added Mercedes name and a 1 to the board and it turned out to be a delightful little girls cake. Little girls are not just made of sugar and spice but also of bows, frills and dots and all things nice!
Cradlestone Mall First Birthday Competition
Last year I entered my first cake competition with this little beach themed cake. Cradlestone Mall were celebrating their first birthday and they hosted among the first year celebrations a cake competition. Entries were open to all bakers and the cakes were judged and then either auctioned or sold off by the slice and all proceeds went to charity. I made this petite Beach Girl Figurine in her lime green bikini top and lacy skirt and placed her on my vanilla sponge cake that was covered in layers of pale cream fondant and blue waved fondant. Beach bronzed sugar crystals were perfect for the sand for her to sit on and sugar paste shells and frangipani flowers completed the fun summer beach theme. I moulded soft blue waves on the board of the cake that gently kissed the bottom of the cake and dotted the waves with tiny white sugar pearls and sugar paste shells.
