Whimsical Wedding Cupcakes

Wedding Cupcakes

I was so excited to once again be able to do one of Grace Stevens‘ Johannesburg workshops in July. Grace presented a number of workshops with the theme, Whimsical Wedding.  As I have never done fondant covered cupcakes, I was really keen to do the Whimsical Wedding Cupcakes.  You can see Grace’s deft hands in motion in the photos above as she showed us how to not only cover a cupcake in fondant but how to emboss the fondant and then decorate the cupcakes with pretty roses, flowers and pearls. Below I have shown my roses in the making in shades of pastel rose and yellow and my embossed sugar paste ready for my cupcakes.

Grace’s attention to detail in her workshops in how she creates her decorations and how she teaches made this a fantastic workshop and I am now loving working with this new technique of decorating cupcakes.  I chose a number of different embossing plates to complete my cupcakes and I was delighted with the light fresh colour combinations for the roses and pearls.  Thank you again Grace for sharing your knowledge with us in such a fun environment, I can’t wait until your next trip to Johannesburg!

Darren & Chelsea’s Wedding Cupcakes

Lavender, Cream & Plum Wedding Cupcakes

Lavender, Cream & Plum Wedding Cupcakes

Darren and Chelsea celebrated their wedding day with their friends and family last Saturday.  The weather turned a tad chilly as winter finally arrived in Johannesburg.  They had chosen a perfect colour scheme for this time of year, lavender, cream & plum with a touch of green and Wendy asked me to do the cupcakes in these colours.  The flavours they chose were lavender, amarula, cappuccino and chocolate and they were excited to let me experiment with different sugarpaste decorations for the cupcakes.  As you can see in the backdrop of the photos above Darren and Chelsea had a quirky and unique wedding invitation in the form of a small record in a sleeve with all the event details printed on it.  I made funky flowers, roses, butterflies and music notes in their colours and popped a different one on each cupcake with a couple of sugar pearls for effect.  I put some of the cupcakes into filigree cupcake holders in cream and plum and the overall result was fun, young and pretty.

I was so delighted to be able to do these cupcakes for Darren and Chelsea’s wedding as I have known Darren for a few years now since my son, Teigh, started taking drum lessons with him.  Darren is not only a brilliant musician and drummer but he is an exceptional young man in the humble yet passionate way he teaches his students.  He has a wonderful influence on all his students and his calm, fun and professional manner endears him to all those who meet him.  Music was Darren’s passion in life until he met Chelsea and in her he has found someone who shares his love for music.  Darren and Chelsea may your married life together be filled with song and laughter and loads of cupcakes of course for all your celebrations together!

I wish I could remember the text Darren sent me after first tasting one of my chocolate cupcakes a while ago as he made me laugh then. Thanks Darren for your love of my cupcakes and thanks Wendy for all the attention to detail and care you put into this order for your son and beautiful new daughter-in-law.  The quote on Darren and Chelsea’s invitation is a perfect one for this couple, “Your love will be safe with me.”

Turquoise and Black Wedding Cupcakes

Turquoise & Black Wedding Cupcakes

Maxine and Steven got married on Saturday and they chose a colour scheme of  Turquoise, black and white which is a fresh and modern colour scheme for any occasion.  Jenna, Maxine’s sister, ordered the cupcakes for the wedding from me and it was brilliant to experience all the time, care and attention to detail she put into making sure the cupcakes were going to be perfect for her sister.  Inspired by Jenna’s love for her sister, I wanted to make sure that each cupcake would surprise and delight the bride and groom and their wedding guests.  Jenna and I agreed on 3 different flowers for the cupcakes, the black blossom and then the combination of the flat and shaped black and turquoise flowers.  I embossed each flower before stacking them and giving them pearl sugar bead centres.  Each cupcake was finished with a swirl of black beads (I found a brilliant long shaped tweezer from the Tool Shop and it makes it easier to place the beads on the cupcakes exactly where I need them – Yay my new favourite decorating tool!) The picture below shows another of the beautiful cupcake stands I ordered from Russell and it is brilliant to have these stands to showcase my cupcakes.

Thank you Jenna for your order and thanks to Jean for transporting the cupcakes to Glenburn Lodge.   May this be just the first of many amazing family celebrations as Maxine and Steven begin their new life together
