Craig & Anthea’s Wedding Cake

Craig & Anthea's Wedding Cake

Thank you Craig and Anthea for putting all your trust in me to create your wedding cake and cupcakes. It was so cool to be able to take your 2 personalities, your characteristics & your wonderful spirit (excuse the pun here!) for life and translate them all into a unique cake for your celebration. I was also under pressure to get this order just perfect in order to live up to Anthea’s excitement of the design we came up with together. This cake was also a way to say a huge thank you to Craig for all the years he has waved his magic scissors and creative hands to make my hair feel & look wonderful. Yes he has had to put up with years of my fussy Leo ways but he manages it really well imparting his own gems of jokes and comments! There is never a dull moment in any visit to Cutz Hair Studio.

I had so much inspiration for the sugar replicas of this amazing couple as Anthea sent me photos of her wedding dress, Craig’s suit details and also Liyah’s pretty dress for their treny sangria and grey colour schemed winter wedding at The Bridge Wedding Venue. I loved the detail in Anthea’s dress from the flattering bodice & detailed diamante waist brooch to the soft folds of the white fabric layers overlaying each other.  Thank goodness for the amazing Zeelandia Paste I used to create these sugar folds. Anthea’s rose tattoo, I created with a miniature rose stamp and edible colour and Craig’s tattoo was hand painted on his neck. Anthea asked me to include the Tequila theme in the design of the cake and I was so excited when I sourced this antique looking miniature Tequila bottle. As a surprise for them both, I included a love note in the tiny bottle. The beautiful words on the note are there own words for each other I copied from their tattoos…. “I have looked at you in millions of ways and loved you in each.”

It was really special to be able to have this sweet Liyah figurine sitting demurely on the board of the cake. I haven’t met Liyah, but the photos of her showed a gorgeous young girl with soft long hair. All the figurines I made using Saracino Modelling Paste, and Face and Figurine molds from (Sweet Revolutions by Domy).

The cupcake toppers were an exciting mix of sangria and grey ruffled flowers, embossed hearts and lemon slices and wedges to continue the tequila theme. I added sugar crystals along with the lemon wedges to complete the spirited feel of these cupcakes! I loved every part of this cake creation and Anthea loved their cake so much she didn’t want to cut it! Here’s a huge thumbs up to an awesome and crazy couple, I raise my tequila glass to you and wish you only amazing adventures together and as a family.

Andrea’s thank you to me was so special:

“Lisa you truly made this cake even more beautiful than I could ever have imagined it would be! Your skills as well as your perfectionist nature just shone through on this beautiful creation! Thank you so much for your beautiful contribution to our magical day, our figurines are currently sitting in our lounge on a special little perch and everytime we walk past them, we cannot help but smile as it takes us back to our precious wedding day!”

Nature Themed Wedding Cupcakes in a Jar

Nature Themed Wedding Cupcakes in a Jar

Inge’s excitement over her cake and cupcakes was contagious as she explained to me her idea to present each of her & Mike’s guests with a cupcake in a jar. We met for the first time choosing the glass jars that were to hold her delightful wedding favours. This tall elegant bride was so relaxed with the ideas I showed her and it was easy to then take Inge’s excitement and translate it into this simple but elegant naked wedding cake and these pretty cupcakes in a jar.

The cream ruffled flower was a perfect topping for this naked cake which would not have been complete without the hearts hugging each other close at the base of the cake and resting on the fun swirl embossed cake board.

It is always fun being left to do a variety of cupcake decorations and for Inge and Mike’s wedding I included the kissing hearts, the wood embossed heart with its tiny partner, embossed flowers and ruffled flowers. I popped the vanilla cupcakes with apple buttercream swirls and chocolate chip cupcakes with vanilla swirls into the jars, added loads of pearls and beads to clink daintily in the jars and then closed the flip top lids to keep the cupcakes safe for their trip to the wedding venue.

Inge’s initial response to seeing the photos of her cake and cupcakes was to tell me that … her heart was so happy and the beautiful thank you message after their wedding made my day:

“I cannot say enough thank yous – the cake you made me was absolutely delicious it was so so beautiful and Mike was so impressed. The cupcakes were a winner and I would recommend you to everybody. Everyone was raving about them, they even had cake for breakfast! Thank you, thank you so much.”

Denise & Matt, Olive Green, Grey & White Wedding

Roses and Olive Leaf Wedding CakeOlive Green & Grey Wedding1

Denise & Matt were married yesterday in the beautiful and tranquil setting at Kloofzicht Lodge. What a pleasure it was to be a part of their special day and to make their wedding cake and cupcakes. Once again, I had an easy going bride, ( I have yet to meet one who hasn’t been an awesome client!). Denise described the layout of her tables and her decor ideas and then let me run with my creativity using the olive green, grey and white of her colour scheme for the day. Denise chose vanilla cake with loads of caramel chocolate chips and a raspberry flavoured buttercream and I ganached it in a silky dark chocolate before covering with sugar paste. The sugar paste roses and addition of soft pretty olive leaves added to the simple elegance of this cake.

The cupcakes in the matching flavour, popping with melted caramel chips were a delight to the guests with a variety of pretty toppings in the olive green, grey and white. Two hearts joined in a beautiful ceremony were depicted in the two hand moulded and embossed hearts on the cupcakes and soft ruffled flowers with pearly centres and roses and rolled roses brought together the elegant feeling of this wedding. Thank you Sue for your feedback this morning and once again I love knowing that everyone loved the cake and cupcakes…..the best reward for any baker!  You must have been so proud of your beautiful daughter yesterday, what a stunning bride. Wishing Denise and Matt a wonderful and memory filled life together!

I couldn’t wait to see the Olive Barrel Cake that Mandy of Annah Fudge Gourmet Cupcakes designed for Kerry & Michael’s wedding celebration as she had asked me to make the Bride and Groom Figurine that was going to top the cake. I had delightful photos of the couple to use as my inspiration for these cute sugarpaste figurines & I placed Kerry happily sitting on Michael’s knee in her beautiful embossed sugarpaste wedding dress.

Thanks Mandy for trusting me with these figurines for your cake. Your cupcake tower looked perfect for the theme with the Olive Barrel Wedding Cake.

Ballet & Rock Bride & Groom!

Ballet & Rock Bride & Groom

This post is long overdue as I made this sugar couple for Rezelle and Dion who got married in a wonderfully romantic service a couple of months ago.  They chose as the theme for their wedding Ballet versus Rock as Rezelle has had a passion for ballet since she could walk and Dion is a talented musician and performer and loves his music.  It was amazing to be a part of this special couple’s wedding in making their cake topper and the wedding cupcakes and then being invited with my family to celebrate their wedding service and reception with them.  I had tremendous fun creating these two characters to resemble Rezelle and Dion and I was delighted with their reaction on seeing their wedding cake topper.  The cupcakes I made in bright and pale pastels to match the colour scheme of the day.  What awesome families you two have and how perfectly they each helped in their own way to make your day memorable.

I photographed the Ballet and Rock bride and groom as they sat comfortably on their beautiful wedding cake made for Rezelle and Dion by Sarah of Sugar Cookie Cakes.  Sarah had designed the wedding cake with a cascade of rainbow roses from the top to the bottom tier and the sugar Rezelle and Dion were a perfect topper to such a beautiful cake.  I wish you many years filled with happiness, joy, dance and music!
