Following on from my previous post, I can’t wait to show you my completed cake after 5 days work learning to make these beautiful sugar paste flowers with Sumaiya Omar of The Cake Duchess. It was sweet sugar heaven when I added my carefully made roses, rose buds, rananculus, David Austin roses, hydrangeas, sweet peas, tendrils and branches and saw just how much I had learnt in the week. The bass relief on the cake completed the floral theme of this cake. What a journey it has been from following your work Sumaiya, with many oohs and aahs, to eventually having had the privilege to have done a course with you.
Denise & Matt were married yesterday in the beautiful and tranquil setting at Kloofzicht Lodge. What a pleasure it was to be a part of their special day and to make their wedding cake and cupcakes. Once again, I had an easy going bride, ( I have yet to meet one who hasn’t been an awesome client!). Denise described the layout of her tables and her decor ideas and then let me run with my creativity using the olive green, grey and white of her colour scheme for the day. Denise chose vanilla cake with loads of caramel chocolate chips and a raspberry flavoured buttercream and I ganached it in a silky dark chocolate before covering with sugar paste. The sugar paste roses and addition of soft pretty olive leaves added to the simple elegance of this cake.
The cupcakes in the matching flavour, popping with melted caramel chips were a delight to the guests with a variety of pretty toppings in the olive green, grey and white. Two hearts joined in a beautiful ceremony were depicted in the two hand moulded and embossed hearts on the cupcakes and soft ruffled flowers with pearly centres and roses and rolled roses brought together the elegant feeling of this wedding. Thank you Sue for your feedback this morning and once again I love knowing that everyone loved the cake and cupcakes…..the best reward for any baker! You must have been so proud of your beautiful daughter yesterday, what a stunning bride. Wishing Denise and Matt a wonderful and memory filled life together!
The beautiful peaceful gardens and Italian ambiance of Casalinga were the setting for the surprise 70th Birthday Lunch for Brenda last week and this pretty Pink Roses and Midnight Garden Lace Chocolate Cake looked so pretty on the table against the backdrop of greenery twinkling in the South African sunshine. Brenda met my mom in hospital over 48 years ago. My mom had just given birth to me and Brenda was about to give birth to her beautiful daughter, Robyn. They became life long friends and as my mom couldn’t be there for Brenda last week, it was so special for my dad and myself to be there with Brenda, her family and friends for her special celebration. Thanks to Tracey, Tom and Robyn; Brenda enjoyed a special lunch in a beautiful setting.
I made pretty pink sugar paste roses and added Midnight Garden Crystal Candy Lace to a chocolate ganached cake. I used the same mat to emboss the pink board around the cake and finished off with a woven pink ribbon.
Thanks Gail for trusting me with this order of sugar paste Mother of Pearl Roses. Somehow making roses is always great sugar therapy and I loved making these last week. Thanks Pat of CakesbyPat for having the patience to teach me how to make roses last year, learning from you definitely gave me the confidence to enjoy making sugar paste roses for customers.
After a gorgeous birthday breakfast with friends it was time for Debbie to celebrate her 50th birthday with her family. Debbie (of Foxglove Landscape Designs) is super talented when it comes to making any garden just beautiful. The birds certainly sing a brighter and more cheerful song in my garden after Debbie has created her horticulture design magic in it. Debbie’s talent extends to her choice in friends as she has 2 gorgeous cake decorating friends in her life. Amber (of Amber’s Cakes and Cupcakes) has been a friend of both Debbie and myself and she bakes and creates with passion and dedication. Amber made this beautiful Teapot Cake with the sugar paste tea cups and hand painted detail with great love and attention to detail especially for Debbie’s celebration. Of course as I love to be part of the celebrations of special friends I offered to make some sugar paste roses to add to Amber’s cake. I am so delighted at how artfully Amber added them to her design. Thanks again Debbie for trusting us with your celebration cake and sugar thumbs up for a great choice in friends!
Lisa (TQO) asked me to make cupcakes for a very special lady who was celebrating her birthday. When asked to do cupcakes for someone I haven’t met before I have to draw inspiration from the person who places the order and so these cupcakes with their feminine pale blue combined with bright lime green roses came about.
I used my easy-rose maker to make these roses and then iced the vanilla cupcakes with a creamy vanilla icing before setting a rose on some of the cupcakes and then completing them with the blue and green sugar pearls. For the remaining cupcakes I made pale blue and lime green rolled roses and placed 3 in the centre of each cupcake, dotting them with sugar pearls to finish. Happy birthday to a special lady and I am thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful birthday celebration.
