Rose Cake Macaron Tower – Helen’s 50th

Rose Cake Macaron Tower

A walk through Helen’s garden is a gift of tranquility, beauty, love and floral passion. Helen’s gentle touch and knowledge can be seen in every living space of her garden and home. It was with this in mind that I designed her 50th Birthday Rose Cake Macaron Tower. The brief was roses and pale pastel colours with macarons inspired by a family visit to the Laduree shop in Paris.

I made these roses from flower paste, carefully dusted in pastel shades of yellow, pink and peach. The pastel macarons completed the tower cake: soft yellow (lemon flavoured), perfect rose (rose water flavoured), pastel green (made with a combination of pistachio and almond flour), pretty orange (orange blossom) and pale brown (chocolate flavoured with cocoa).

Beautifully displayed in Helen’s home, this cake showcased her personality and it was a pleasure to create this cake and then to share in such a beautifully planned 50th celebration.

Thank you for your kind words Helen:

” Thank you so much for the most incredible cake and macarons. You are a genius. It was perfect… the subtle delicate flavours, the subtle colours, everything.”

Lisa (TQO) Celebrates her Birthday!

Lisa Livie's Birthday CakeIf there is one friend I have who really knows how to celebrate birthdays or actually anything else really….that is Lisa (TQO).  Earlier this year Lisa Scrapbooking hosted us at her home and prepared a delicious lunch for us all to celebrate Lisa’s (TQO) birthday. I…another Lisa….Lisa Cupcake, for short, made the birthday cake for the day. The cake was a delicious Irish Cream Cake with an ivory buttercream covering. I added pretty embossed detail into the buttercream by placing the Crystal Candy Lace mat against the buttercream and pressing gently against the cake. As Lisa loves flowers I added pale white roses with a blush of pink to the top of the cake. The cake in the background above is a vegan chocolate cake, doused with Lindt chilli chocolate ganache and pomegranate seeds.

Needless to say we had a wonderful time celebrating and Lisa as always was totally delighted with her cake. Sorry it took so long to blog Lisa but happy birthday and here’s to next year’s cake!

Birthday Cake for a Baker

Cake for a BakerCake for a Baker

Jeanine is another client of mine who is passionate about the cupcakes and cakes that I make and as she has an appreciation for all things beautiful this cake had to be extra pretty.  Jeanine ordered a cake for her daughter’s 30th birthday celebration and as she is a baker I thought it would be cool to add baking goodies to the top of her cake.  The miniature eggs in their egg box, the cupcakes and the cake are all sugar paste and I used pastel colours to match the colour scheme for the birthday.  To get the silver shimmer of the baking tray I dusted the finished tray with a Rolkem lustre powder before adding the tiny cupcakes with their sprinkled tops.  I finished the cake off with layers of pastel pink and blue ruffles and a pretty embossed pink apron.

This message from Jeanine makes all the weekend hours worth it: “Thanks a million AGAIN! The cake was beyond my expectation – absolutely beautiful and I can SO appreciate the love, passion and work that you put into it! ” I was so touched at your reaction to seeing the cake when you collected it and delighted that I could add to your daughter’s 30th birthday celebration!
