As I now had my very own handmade owl mould I experimented with different coloured sugar paste owls for different cupcake orders and celebrations. These vibrant coral and yellow owls with their small flower detail I used for a Cupcakes in a Jar order. To tie in the colour theme of the owls I first added a layer of buttercream to the jar and sprinkled yellow and white sugar pearls onto the buttercream before adding the chocolate cupcakes. These I then iced and proudly added the owls to sit comfortable on their buttercream perch.
Hayley loves owls so again it was a great opportunity to use my mould again. I used a bright and pale blue paste for these owls and added painted detail to them. They were an added treat for Hayley at her scrapbooking birthday celebration.

Bright Pink and Blue Owl Cupcakes were the order of the day for my contribution to the Cupcakes4Kids With Cancer Fundraising Day at Fourways Mall. I loved making these cupcakes to be sold in aid of this amazing organisation and was so extremely touched to be presented with a certificate of contribution by Vimala who along with other volunteers puts so much of her time and ethusiasm to this cause. Their facebook page is so worth a visit to see all the young lives to whom these volunteers make a difference.
Wendy celebrated her birthday and as a small gift I made her rich chocolate cupcakes in a jar with Pastel Pink and Blue Owls. Wendy also has a passion for owls and a lovely collection of different owls so these cute decorations were the obvious choice for her cupcakes. I added a set of stamped and hand coloured owl cards to her gifts as card making is another passion of mine, one which I don’t often get time to spend too much time on. It was a pleasure to celebrate Wendy’s birthday and to see her delight in receiving her gifts. Thanks Wendy for your amazing support of and delight in Cupcakes2Delite.
After having used a number of silicone moulds for my different sugar paste decorations, I decided to do learn how to make my own moulds in order to produce delightful decorations that are unique to Cupcakes2Delite. The course I took part in was presented by Paul of AMT Composites in Johannesburg and it was an incredibly comprehensive full day course. I was so chuffed when I came home with my newly purchased product and was able to produce this silicone mould of an owl from a key ring that had captured my attention. In the photo below the key ring is the owl with the pink and lime green wings and the others are sugar paste owls made from my mould.
Of course this experimental owls needed cupcakes to perch themselves on!
Kerry ordered cupcakes to surprise her sister for her 30th birthday and as she loves owls I made these tiny sugar paste owls in pale blue and yellow. For added detail I embossed a circle for their little chest and added a heart to each one. The wings are hearts onto which I hand painted white dots, Finally I gave them cute googly eyes with eyelashes. For the flower cupcakes I cut out embossed flowers using the easy rose cutter and added the rolled easy rose as the accent in the centre of each flower. I also cut out blue and yellow daisies, peace signs and music notes to add to the cupcakes. I dotted the cupcakes with blue, yellow and orange sugar pearls to complete the colour scheme. The facebook feedback from the guests was that the cupcakes not only looked gorgeous but were delicious too. Thank you again Kerry for your order and so excited that one of my very first clients trusted me again with such a fun order!

Ceire, our beautiful daughter, turned 17 in October and as she had fallen in love with the dancing figurine cake in Carlos Lischetti’s book and asked me to do that cake for her birthday I did but put my own twist and character to the cake. The cake was a cotton candy sponge which I covered with a vanilla buttercream. As Ceire is not too fond of fondant covered cakes I covered the sides and top of the cake with edible strips of lace which added to the feminine dance theme of the cake. The figurine represents Ceire and everything about her dancing days. Her elegant, slim and long legs are crossed gracefully as she sits on the edge of her cake and she is wearing a simple white dance costume that portrays the simple yet elegant dancer that Ceire was, Her hair is loose and flowing as from young Ceire did not love her hair tightly tied up but would rather have it loose and flowing. Her ballet shoes are next to her and they and the cake are dotted with tears that represent the sad goodbye she had to say to dance following surgery on both her hips. She has a slighty sad reminiscing expression but she is holding a tear to represent her courage and strength through everyting she has been through.
I am so proud of you Ceire, not only for the beautiful and talented dancer and gymnast you proved to be, but more importantly for the gorgeous, strong and creative young woman you have grown into and the delight you add into our lives!
Great friends like great books are to be treasured for life! Michelle is one of those great friends who fills my life with joy, much laughter and fun. She is there not only for the fun times but also for the tough times and she has enough love and care to do this with all her family and friends. When it came to designing a cake for her Fab 50th Birthday I needed to include Michelle’s family and friends in the theme as they are so special to her. It also had to be soft, feminine and pretty and it had to last through 3 different birthday celebrations. The first occasion was a surprise birthday celebration hosted by Angela for Michelle and all the Wacky Wednesday Scrapbookers. The pastel pink book at the bottom of the pile pictured above was especially for this occasion. I baked a delicious raspberry sponge with a Vanilla bean filling and chocolate ganache and I titled it, Eat, Laugh and Scrap as that pretty much sums us up! True to form we did eat the gorgeous grub prepared by Angela, we laughed loudly and of course took loads of photos to scrapbook.
Michelle then celebrated with her family and friends on a balmy Saturday evening and I used the top 4 books again for her cake for this occasion. I had made these books as false cakes for this reason and the first book on the board I made a delicious strawberry sponge with a Candy Cane flavoured filling. I covered this book in Michelle’s favourite duck egg blue and titled it, Family & Friends. The pink floral embossed book at the top of the pile had to be for Michelle and this I titled Fab 50 for her because she is just fabulous in every way. My son came up with the ‘catchy’ title for Marco’s book. Marco was Michelle’s Catch of the Day the day she fell in love with him and chose him as her lifelong husband, friend and partner. Marco has also been spotted in one of his favourite spots fishing quietly and contemplating life. Shayna, Michelle’s daughter, wasn’t able to be at the party as she has gone Big in Japan & settled into her wonderful adventure and life in Japan. Michelle had a wonderful trip to visit Shayna a few months ago and they shared so many treasured moments seeing the beautiful blossoms and flowers of the Japanese spring. Brandon, Michelle’s son, has definitely caught the Travel Bug so his book was aptly named. I added embossed ships and compasses to this book. The sugar paste roses, heart and buttons complete the feminine look for Michelle’s cake.
The final celebration of the wonderful trio of parties was a high tea Michelle hosted for her girl friends and again we celebrated with delicious food and cake. In addition to the cake I made vanilla bean cupcakes in a jar with pretty sugar paste roses and flowers and these were gifts for her friends. The soft pretty flowers were a perfect ending to a wonderful day for an amazing and truly special friend!
