These cupcakes were ordered for a special lady on her last day of chemotherapy in October as a thank you to all the staff and friends who had supported her during the weeks of her chemotherapy. I made the cupcake toppers in pale pink and made pastel pink flowers, roses and breast cancer ribbons to remember all those who are undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer and all the amazing staff, family and friends who offer support through such a difficult time.

Leopard Print Figurine Cake (Tipsy Tart)
Another fun weekend of baking a few months ago ! My Tipsy Tart (thanks for the nick name Al) Leopard Lady went out for a Saturday celebration. She is relaxing in her martini glass while holding a glass of wine! I loved the brief from Andrea and Colin for this cake and was delighted to hear that Glynnis enjoyed a brilliant 60th birthday celebration and that she cried when she saw her cake!
This particular cake started with a spot of research into Spotted Baking as I wanted to replicate the leopard’s spots in the cake itself. I was rewarded with many how tos from google on how to do this and you will see in the picture above exactly how to create the spots by colouring your cake mixture light brown and black and then adding these colours into your vanilla cake mixture in the baking tin. The result is a gorgeous leopard imitation cake once baked and cut!
Next I had to make the Glynnis Figurine sitting in her martini glass. You can see how I made her in stages below. I started with her legs and body and then added a gorgeous sunflower yellow petticoat to her dress before adding her face, skirt and bodice. Andrea had said that Glynnis loves her leopard print tops and her wine so I painted the body and skirt with leopard spots using food colouring and then made her a little wine glass to hold. The final details to the figurine were her blonde hair, pretty eyelashes and peachy blushed cheeks. While making the figurine I also made cream and pale yellow flowers with leopard spots on them to add to the cake. The cake I then ruffled with layers of cream, pale yellow and sunflower yellow ruffles some of which I painted with leopard spots to capture the wild and fun theme of this cake.
This cake was a surprise for Glynnis’s 60th birthday and with all the detail that Andrea and Colin put into the ordering of the cake they also included a small gluten free cake that Glynnis could eat. I made this and it sat next to her cake elegantly in its own martini glass. I used Lindt chocolate to ganache it and added a matching leopard print flower and gold beads to the mini cake to match the theme of the Leopard Print Figurine Cake.
Peace Sign Cupcakes!
Linda’s brief to me for her daughter Michelle’s Cupcakes was that they had to be Hippie Themed and colourful. I have used this peace sign numerous times on cupcakes but decided to jazz it up a bit by embossing my purple sugar paste before I cut the peace sign and then totally hippie-fying them with added embossed yellow and red flowers! The delicious swirls of vanilla buttercream were decorated with the colourful peace signs and then I added tiny green pearls for a final pop of hippie colour. Who would not want to dive into a birthday celebrations with these cupcakes?
Gorilla Backpack Cake!
This Gorilla Backpack Cake was inspired by Shaunagh’s excitement prior to her going to see the gorillas in Uganda for her birthday this August and by Grace Stevens delightful African Explorer Cake in her first book, Celebration Cakes. I haven’t done many carved cakes so it was a new challenge to take on this cake. With the clear instructions from Grace’s book it was a fun baking project and I was chuffed with the way it turned out for Shaunagh’s birthday celebration. The sugar gorilla figurine I added next to the backpack as a fun element for Shaunagh before she left to visit the beautiful gorillas. Luckily Shaunagh returned with no wildlife in her backpack and only perfect pictures to record the memories that she would treasure of her visit to Uganda.
Ballet Rocks Denim Figurine for Ceire’s Sweet 16th!
The petite really cute baby I gave birth to 16 years ago turns Sweet 16 today! Congratulations Ceire and thank you for 16 years of fun, laughter and joy with you! I love the zest for life and quirky craziness you bring into our lives every day. Wishing you the best day ever and enjoy being totally spoilt with all your pressies and your Ballet Rocks Denim cake! This figurine was inspired by your lovely long legs and the ballet part is a thank you to you for all the hours you spent dancing and giving us such joy with youir grace and beauty on stage. The denim is inspired by your love for denim jeans and shorts (hence the denim shorts cake with the added lace you love) and your funky swagger in everything denim, you know how to rock whatever you are wearing and we love you for it. Not sure if these shoes are quite as awesome as your new Nikes and Converse shoes but couldn’t resist adding them for some fun to your figurine and of course the laces are not done up in memory of all the times you insisted on not tying your laces on your shoes!!! Yes I remember! I hope I captured everything beautiful about you from your legs to your hair to your pretty face and most of all I hope I captured your zany character and zest for life!
Wendy Fairy & Cupcakes
I couldn’t resist this dainty turquoise teacup with the pale blue lotus-looking flower design nestled on the inside of the cup for my inspiration for my Wendy Fairy Figurine. Wendy B celebrated her birthday last Wednesday and as she is another passionate Cupcakes2Delite fan I thought I would surprise her with this gift of a Wendy Fairy. I made the fairy sitting prettily in the teacup in shades of pale turquoise and blue as these are Wendy’s favourite colours. She is holding a blue lotus flower with a tiny gold speckled centre (to pick up the gold edged detail of the cup and saucer) showing off her gorgeous wavy brunette curls and warm friendly smile! It was so great to see Wendy wearing a turquoise top on the morning of her birthday as she matched her sugar sister to perfection, smile, curls and all. Wendy’s cupcakes had to be sugar paste covered of course being her absolute favourite so I embossed different sugar paste designs onto scalloped circles before adding them to the tasty vanilla cupcakes. Each one I topped off with a dainty rouched sugar paste flower and beaded centre. As always your excitement about my work Wendy was brilliant and I was really touched at how delighted you were with your sugar fairy sister!
