Lalaloopsy Doll Cupcakes

Lalaloopy Cupcakes

It was fun making these Lalaloopsy Doll Cupcakes for Janine who ordered them for her niece’s birthday. These cute rag dolls were the inspiration for these cupcakes and I made the faces with pale pink sugar paste discs, black sugar paste button eyes and pink, watermelon and sunny yellow hair. On the remainder of the cupcakes I added sugar buttons in these different colours. They were a cheeky delight in their peach polka dot cupcake holders. Thanks Janine for and opportunity to play with dolls again!

Polka Dot Flower Cupcakes

Polka Dot Flower Cupcakes

Most of my friends know that I go a bit dotty over dots and I love any opportunity to add polka dots to my life. I am not sure if Debbie knew this when she asked me to do these Polka Dot Flower Cupcakes for her. I used a variety of colours and added small sugar paste circles to the colours before embossing and then cutting out the blossoms. I used contrasting sugar paste balls for the centres of the flowers and then pressed my embossing mat gently on to each centre to both flatten and emboss them. The result was these really charming and colourful cupcakes with their dotty flowers!

Mothers Day Cupcakes

Pink & Peach Mothers Day Cupcakes

Last Sunday we celebrated Mothers Day here in South Africa and it was a gorgeous winter day for all of us moms to be treated. I know I was more than spoilt with exquisite pottery mugs and bowl and roses from my husband, my favourite MAC make-up from my daughter and Gordon Ramsey’s Home Cooking from my son. After a delicious lunch at Frenzi, I could honestly say I had a brilliantly relaxing day with my family so thank you guys!

As all moms love a sweet treat on their special day I advertised my Mothers Day Cupcakes for sale with the proceeds going towards the TrinityHouse School Debs and Squires Fund-Raising, 2014. I was really touched that so many friends and clients ordered for this occasion and generously supported this fund-raising at the same time. I  just want to send out a huge thank you to you all for your orders, my business rocks because of all of you!

I loved how these embossed pale peach hearts complemented the embossed blue flowers and thanks to Martha Stewart’s alphabet mold & Ceire’s patient molding of all these M’s the cupcakes were a perfect gift for any mom.

As I celebrated with my children I remembered the friends and family who tragically no longer have their children to hold on this special day and all the moms whose children were just a bit too far away to hold. No matter where our children are, as a mother, we will always feel blessed to have had our children grace our lives with their uniqueness and we will hold them close to our hearts forever.

Hippie Hipster Cupcakes!

Lauren celebrated her 21st with a Hippie Hipster theme and her mom, Sharon asked me to do cupcakes with peace signs and daisies in bright colours. I chose a combination of yellow, blue, purple, pink, orange and green and made daisies with bright centres and peace signs. To make some of the signs stand out I embossed my sugar paste before using my cutter to cut out the sign and I added a tiny daisy to each one before popping them on to the cupcakes. Thanks Sharon and Lauren for a fun and colourful order!

Minion Cupcakes!

These cute Minion Cupcakes were an order I did for Kelsey’s birthday.  She wanted the minions to have party hats so included an embossed party hat on each character’s face.  Thanks Gail and Kelsey for your order and for the challenge in making these cupcakes!

Easter Bunny Cake in Layers

Easter Bunny Cake

In March this year we were pleased to have Grace Stevens of Cupcakes by design to present her Easter Bunny workshop here in Johannesburg. Grace taught us how to make this mischievous sugar bunny and I had him sitting in my display cabinet proudly holding his Easter cake. I thought he deserved to be shown off on a special cake for Easter and I decided on a 4 layered cake using the colours of Easter. My first layer was a light yellow layer flavoured with the juice and zest of a lemon, the second was an egg yellow colour with a passion fruit flavour, the third an orange coloured and flavoured layer and the final layer was zesty green and apple flavoured.

Layers of Easter Colours!

I made a butter cream icing which I also divided into 4 and coloured each to match the sponge layers. I used a vanilla butter cream to smooth between each layer and then created the outside effect using the coloured butter cream in small dollops which I smoothed with a teaspoon. The top was finished off with the rather proud sugar bunny and loads of speckled eggs.  The sliced cake not only looked but also tasted delicious.
