Turning 50 in Style!

Lavender & Lace Cupcakes

Wow Jenny you certainly turned 50 with a great amount of style and grace and a gorgeous birthday breakfast celebration shared with family and friends. You looked beautiful and your setting at House Higgo in Northcliff was just perfect to make your day a memorable one.  I loved your theme of Lavender and Lace and when you asked me to do the cupcakes according to this theme these pale pink, light lavender and purple sugar paste roses were so pretty on these Vanilla and Lavender Cupcakes in their dainty lavender cupcake cases.

Not only were you blessed with gorgeous weather, amazing family and friends but we were treated to a delicious breakfast by the very gracious staff of House Higgo.  I loved your colour scheme and the most beautiful flower arrangements that your talented mom made for you were perfect on the pretty lace table centres.  You have always been such a caring and thoughtful friend and it was very clear what an amazing friend you are to all those who shared your birthday with you. It was a privilege for me to share in such a special celebration with you.

Cupcakes for a Gardener

After Jan’s excitement a year ago over the gardening cake I made for her birthday, I was thrilled that we could celebrate with her again this year and as the gardening theme was a winning formula I thought I would stick to it  for her cupcakes this year.  As you can see in my photos I had a huge amount of fun with different summer colours and flower designs and then even more fun grouping the flowers into their pots, wheelbarrows and barrrels.  Of course every gardener needs a pretty pair of wellington boots and a fetching sun hat so I included sugar paste versions of these too.  In keeping with the garden theme I made Rose and White Chocolate Cupcakes and Lavender and White Chocolate Cupcakes all deliciously iced with a creamy vanilla icing.

On a Monday morning previous to making these cupcakes I had taken a trip into Parkhurst, a place close to my heart for so many reasons and the latest being In Good Company’s move to this quaint suburb.  Walking into their shop is just the perfect delight for any shopper and entertainer as their attention to detail in their displays and the quality of their products is superb.  With Jan in mind, I was drawn to these pretty Meri Meri cupcake cases with their pretty striped and flower detail and I Love Cupcake font and to another new product the Meri Meri Cupcake Gift Boxes.  The gift boxes hold 4 cupcakes each and are shaped as a little roofed cottage with a window through which you can view the cupcakes.  The cupcake gods certainly had me in mind as these beautiful purchases became the colour inspiration for Jan’s cupcakes.  In Good Company also had the perfect gift for Jan in the form of a garden trowel and fork covered in a delicate rose design. Their unusual array of ribbons kept me a while longer as I chose the perfect one for wrapping Jan’s present which you will see here in the photo belo

A trip to Parkhurst is not complete on visiting only one shop so another exciting window display in The Windmill caught my eye and it was in this lovely gift shop where I found the perfect cream cake stand for these beautiful cupcakes.  I loved the embossed metal work and dainty daisy cutouts in the metal and I know that this is a stand I will use over and over again.

Needless to say, we had a brilliant morning celebrating with Jan who was once again impressed by how well we all know her as we chose gifts for her home and garden.  You may be impressed with us Jan but it is thanks to your open, honest and fun personality that we have got to know you and you are an inspiration in your careful and dedicated way that you scrap your most precious family moments and willingly share with us your sad moments, crazy moments and mostly your fun moments.  Thanks for being a friend to us all and Wednesday mornings would just not be the same without you!

Yee hah for these Cowgirl Cupcakes!

Cowgirl Cupcakes

Yee Hah for these Cupcakes!

Well all those hours of playing Cowboys and Indians as a child finally paid off as the inspiration for these cupcakes.  Deanca wanted cupcakes for a Cowgirl themed party and with the help of images her mom sent me I was able to make these pink sugar paste cowgirl hats which I popped onto iced chocolate and vanilla cupcakes.  I am sure the girls had fun choosing which hat and cupcake they preferred and lassoed them quickly for themselves.  I’m sure if John Wayne’s mom was around today she would say, “Get down off your horse and eat your cupcake and never mind the milk!”

Welcoming Louise’s Baby Girl.

Baby Feet Cupcakes

Congratulations Louise!

I chose pretty pink flowers with velvety brown baby’s feet nestled safely in them because when I first saw Louise with her beautiful new baby girl I felt that her little girl could not be in the care of a more adoring or loving mother and granny.  Lisa ordered these cupcakes to celebrate the arrival of Louise’s baby girl into her life and it was appropriate to use a girly pink for the flower and a velvety brown for the feet.  We all wish you many joyful hours of kissing your baby’s beautiful feet as you watch your child learn to walk and then to run and of course to dance.  Have fun Louise and enjoy this precious journey!

Happy Birthday Bakie!

Coral Rose Birthday Cupcakes

Thank you Bakie

My domestic helper celebrated her birthday on Valentine’s Day and as a small thank you I made these pretty Coral Rose Cupcakes for her.  Not only does Bakie keep my home clean for my family but she also helps wash endless baking bowls and cupcake trays and shows her approval with every batch of decorated cupcakes that she sees leave my kitchen.  Bakie loves colour and has her every outfit co-ordinated to the nth degree and this coral and white combination was perfect for her to celebrate her birthday.  I learned an invaluable lesson from you Bakie as you received our simple gifts with such joy and humility and then repeatedly told me the next day how happy you had been with your gifts and cupcakes.  Thank you for everything you do for my family we love your humble and quiet ways!

Cupcake Devotion!

Valentine's Day Cupcakes

Spread the Love Today!

Love is my inspiration for these cupcakes with the addition of something a little naughty of course!  I had these quirky heart cupcake holders which were perfect for the theme of love for Valentine’s Day so I needed a quirky cupcake to fill them.  My naughty addition came in the form of a pink liqueur called Love Potion which I added somewhat generously to the cupcake mixture before baking them.  For added sauce (it is Valentine’s Day after all) I added more Love Potion to the creamy icing for these cupcakes.  Perfectly tiny hearts and these funky straws from In Good Company finished off my Love Potion Cupcakes.  Everyone was tickled pink …. no not pickled pink …. with these gorgeously smooth tasting cupcakes.
