Having ‘eye-balled’ these ghoulish packets of eyeball sweets as little halloween treats for my family and friends, I couldn’t resist adding them to my Halloween Cupcakes. They were a really simple way of decorating these cupcakes but next year I will have to go for the full effect of making them look really scary and add the bloodshot veins around the eyeballs. Luckily the cupcakes weren’t scary all the way through as I added orange essence, freshly grated ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg to make Orange, Ginger and Spice Cupcakes for the occasion as I was not adventurous enough to try out a pumpkin cupcake! For an extra surprise, it was halloween after all, I added Cointreau to the creamy icing and the result was not so scary looking but delectably delicious Halloween cupcakes!
Hippie & Millionaire Cupcakes for Kayleigh!
On Saturday Kayleigh had her 21st Birthday party and Shaunagh asked me to do Hippie and Millionaire themed cupcakes to go with Kayleigh’s chosen theme. The peace sign cutter I sourced from Kadies in Fourways was perfect for cutting out sugar paste peace signs from purple sugar paste. I added the yellow and purple daisy and baked these cupcakes in yellow cupcake holders to tie in the yellow and purple colour scheme. Sunflowers in buckets were the centre piece for each table so I made sugar paste sunflowers for the cupcakes in the purple cupcake holders, these were simple to do with the sunflower cutter and embossed centre. To tie in the Millionaire theme to the cupcakes Shaunagh suggested dollar signs which I made using an ‘s’ and a line through the centre with white sugar paste which I then larnied up with gold edible colouring.
I was delighted when I arrived to see the brilliantly decorated function room and the fun and detail that Shaunagh and Kayleigh had put into each and every table. I had to add the photographs below of the clever table ‘numbering’ and the funky buckets with their bright sunflowers, dollar sign necklaces and peace sunglasses. It was a privilege to have been able to do this order for such a delightful family and judging by the pictures it looks like there could not have been more fun had at Kayleigh’s funky 21st birthday celebration.
Blue Butterfly Cupcakes for Nikita’s 18th Birthday.
I was thrilled with this order of Blue Butterfly Cupcakes that Alison ordered for Nikita’s 18th Birthday celebration a few weeks ago. Not only do I love making these butterflies but I was inspired by the attention to detail that went into the planning for this wonderful birthday party. I had to include in my photos above the great idea of the blue cocktails served to the guests as they entered the party and the clever way they were lit up with fairy lights at the entrance. The center piece on each table was a different design in shades of blue and silver giving a calm yet quirky feel to the function room. I could just imagine the surprise and awe of the guests as they walked in to this beautifully decorated function room. The cupcakes I made with butterflies in shades of blue and silver were perfectly in place amidst the delightful decor for the celebration. Thank you Alison for your cupcake order and for including my cupcakes on such a wonderful occasion.
Giraffe Cupcakes!
These are cute giraffe cupcakes I made for a girl’s birthday party a few months ago. Her mom said she loves giraffes so I made these giraffes using a Sculpey clay mould and egg yellow sugar paste. I painted their spots and eyes with black food colouring and then added them to the top of the cupcakes along with green embossed leaves as detail on the cupcakes. I remembered while watching the funny giraffe in Zookeeper last night that I hadn’t blogged them yet and they are just too cute not to blog.
Hats Off to these Cupcakes!
From the theme “A Walk on the Wild Side” for her daughter’s 21st birthday, it was quite a change to do “Summer Hats” cupcakes for Jenny’s Garden Themed 50th Birthday party. Jenny left the choice of colours and designs up to me which gave me free reign to choose a summery colourful palette of warm yellow, funky orange, tickled pink and zesty lime green. I fashioned these hats from sugar paste and using different flower cutters and embossing sheets I made this array of beautiful bright hats with their quirky ribbons and flower accessories. The cupcakes I baked were a variety of chocolate, red velvet and passionfruit with white chocolate in brightly coloured cupcake holders. These cute summer hat cupcakes were the ultimate fashion accessory to a brilliant 50th Birthday celebration!
Peach & Blue Flower Birthday Cupcakes!
Hayley’s birthday is the last of the year for our Wacky Wednesday Scrapbooking group so it was great to have yet another excuse to celebrate last Wednesday just before the silly season begins! Hayley is great at combining unusual colours, patterns and items in her scrapbooking so I thought I would take 2 colours that I hadn’t used before and combine them into funky flowers for her birthday cupcakes. The peach is a lighter shade of a beautiful watermelon colouring I have and I used it to make these different sugar paste flowers. The sky blue flower centres and blue sugar beads are a perfect contrast to the warm peach flowers. I used different embossing techniques on the flowers as Hayley is also a texture guru when it comes to her wonderful artistic creations. Once again we celebrated another birthday with gorgeous gifts, party packs, cake and cupcakes. I couldn’t resist photographing Hayley’s cupcakes with the wildly colourful gift bag I chose for her birthday gift.
