Cupcakes2Delite gets Physical!

Gym CupcakesGym Cupcakes

It was great fun for Cupcakes2Delite to get physical again and I made these cupcakes for a female gym enthusiast this time!  Instead of bulging biceps and perky pectorals I made sugar paste gym bags, gym towels, weights, hand weights, kettle bells, bosu balls, exercise balls and skipping ropes. I used the lime green, turquoise and black to co-ordinate the colours for Hayley’s cupcakes and included these fun toppers as she is passionate about her exercise. Thanks Brian for this order and delighted that these cupcakes were a part of the family birthday celebrations!

Motorbike Helmet Cake for David’s 21st!

Motorbike Helmet Cake

David was the first friend of Teigh to turn 21 and it was wonderful  for our family to celebrate his birthday with him and his family and to make his special birthday cake for him.  Julieta, his mom, sent me brilliant pictures of his off-road Fox helmet and she asked me to do a cake that showed David’s passion for off-road biking.  I made a cake, carved it into the shape of the helmet and with Teigh’s guidance it resembled the Fox helmet.  Thanks to Pat’s expertise fondant skills, the cake was beautifully and flawlessly covered before I added the printed rice paper goggles and logos, red sugar paste strap and sugar paste dots. Finally I added chocolate rocks to the base of the board and washi taped the edge for a complete finished look.  David was surprised by his mom’s order of this cake and everyone loved it but I have to say the hi-light of the day for me was when Julieta came to cut the cake and tried to lift the goggles off the cake thinking that they were real goggles, a real compliment to the cake!

World Literacy Day Cupcakes

World Literacy Day Cupcakes

Trinityhouse Primary School, Randpark Ridge celebrated World Literacy Day in awesome style last year. The teachers and children dressed up as literary characters from their favourite books and Karin ordered cupcakes to celebrate the day in sweet style with the staff members.  There was great excitement in the school on the day and even more excitement as I delivered the cupcakes with their literary inspired sugar works.  For the miniature books I googled children’s book covers and had them printed in miniature onto edible rice paper and put them on the tiny sugar paste books I had created in bright colours.

World Literacy Day CupcakesThe Cat in The Hat has to be many a childhood favourite and with the bright red book covers and bright red and white hats they added quirky colour to the cupcake display.  Benjamin Bunny didn’t quite hop on his cupcake but he looked cute in his little blue sugar pants.

Alice in Wonderland has to be a favourite literary theme and so easy recognizable with the mad-hatter hats, Cheshire Cat, stop watches and Drink Me bottles.

A A Milne’s Winnie the Pooh is a treasured book on many a shelf and I made the colourful characters, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger as well as Pooh’s honey jar.  I loved this opportunity to make these cupcakes for such a wonderful occasion so thank you Karin for trusting me with your order.

Giant Cupcake Cake for Nicola!

Giant Cupcake Cake in Blue & Lime

Thanks Vee of your order for Nicola’s birthday cake for the third year running.  It was fun to do this Giant Cupcake Cake in pastel blue and shades of lime green for her.  I have baked this cake before but decided on a chocolate coated ‘cupcake wrapper’ base for a change.  Thanks to an awesome tutorial it was really easy and not only effective on the cake but also tasty.  I added a swirl of vanilla cream cheese icing before decorating the cake with daisies in shades of lime and Crystal Lace butterflies.  I was inspired by the blue cupcake cases with their dainty white polka dots to add white gel polka dots to the chocolate casing.

The cupcakes I made with a matching vanilla icing, lime daisies and lime green pearls.  I added the cake to an embossed cake board with a washi taped edge in the matching colours.  Cake turned out to be not only my favourite four letter word but Nicola’s too as she was presented with her birthday cake!

Cyclist Cake for Veronica

Sugar Cyclist Figurine & Bicycle Cake

It is always inspiring for me when a client orders a cake for a friend with such passionate and meaningful intentions and it makes me want to pull out all the stops to make sure that the cake portrays the message and intent in the best possible way.  This was the case when Andrea ordered this cake for her friend, Veronica, who she told me was not only a fantastic cyclist but also a strong and determined woman.

Andrea’s brief to me was that Veronica had to be on her cake along with her yellow bike and she had to have pink highlights!  Thanks to photos Andrea sent me and a couple of google tutorials I managed to make a small sugar replica of Veronica’s bike and add it proudly to her alongside her sugar figurine.  I added some chocolate ‘rocks’ for a rustic feel around the base of the tree stump that the bike is resting against and a message of good luck to Veronica from Andrea – another google learned technique of pulling printed text off of white paper using washi tape.  Thank you Andrea for your order and for once again sharing your inpiring and thoughtful wishes through sugar!

Birthday Cake for Michelle & Hayley

Birthday Cake for a LadyMichelle and Hayley celebrated their birthdays in the same month and we held a combined party for them.  I made a cake with 3 gift boxes, one a pastel blue and light peach ribboned gift box and the other 2 with a figurine each for Michelle and Hayley.

I was inspired by Michelle’s love of blue to make her a tiny “Michelle” figurine in a pretty blue dress on a pale pink gift box.  I added lace, made using Crystal Lace to the figurine’s petticoat and I included a chilren’s book for the days when Michelle taught her 4 year olds at creche.  The little figurine has the same peaceful smile that Michelle always shows us!

Birthday Cake for a Lady

Hayley has a passion for colour which she uses with skillful abandon in our scrapbooking classes so I was inspired to do this colourful owl for her.  I used my favourite shade of blue and different flower and heart cutters to complete the sassy owl.  The gift box I covered in a warm yellow, dusted with tangerine. She spent the morning batting her pretty eyelashes at us and watched both Michelle and Hayley open all their presents!
