Unicorn Cupcakes – creating sweet magic!

Unicorn Cupcakes

The Unicorn craze has hit Cupcake2Delite blog here with this order of cupcakes for Sharon’s daughter’s 6th birthday. It is always tricky to make something that is being produced by almost every baker, uniquely mine, so these are definitely inspired by the hundreds of unicorn cupcake images. I hand moulded the unicorn horns and then painted them with Crystal Candy Diamond Lustre Dust in Autumn Harvest which is a pretty rose gold colour. I added cute ears dainty flowers and sprinkles in mixed colours. These all settled into rainbow swirls of pink, lilac and blue buttercream resulted in the Cupcakes2Delite version of Unicorn Cupcakes. Happy 6th Birthday Thando!

From Sharon: “Hi Lisa! the class is still talking about Thando’s birthday and especially the cupcakes!  As usual, they were yummy! Thanks once again!”

‘Fantastical’ Bug Cupcakes

Cute Bug Cupcakes

I am not sure if this post is about keeping it all in the cupcake family or keeping the family in cupcakes, as Michelle trusted me with yet another order for a family celebration. This time it was Cute Bug Cupcakes or as Michelle nicknamed them, ‘Fantastical’ Bug Cupcakes for her granddaughter’s first birthday party. Ava is as cute as a button and deserved to be surprised with her fantasy sugar paste butterflies, ladybugs, dragonflies, worms and bees all in soft shades of pastel pink, blue, yellow and green.

As usual, I was so touched by Michelle’s thank you message to me….

“Ava couldn’t stop squealing with delight when she saw her ‘fantastical’ bug birthday cupcakes . . . one very happy tiny customer! Once again a huge thank you from our family for adding the ‘sparkle’ to yet another of our gatherings. No celebration would be the same without your creative talent setting the theme and adding just the right amount of whimsy. A flutter of butterfly thank you kisses from all of us.”

Two ‘bees in a pod’ below resting sweetly on their fantasy leaves, cute pink and yellow butterflies with their embossed wings and cheeky snails completed this array of baby insects for Ava’s cupcakes.

My thank you from Candy and Ava…

“I just wanted to thank you for making the most incredible cupcakes for Ava’s first birthday. You really are phenomenal and they added ‘sparkle’ to a very special day! Thanks again, love Candy and Ava”

Coral Butterfly & Flower Cupcakes

Coral Butterfly & Flower Cupcakes

Once again I was given free sugar rein with this cupcake order. Sarah just said anything pretty for Kayla’s 17th Birthday. These cupcakes had to hold just a tad extra charm as Dom, Sarah’s daughter, her chief baker, is away and couldn’t bake her sister’s cupcakes this year. I have heard Dom bakes and decorates with passion and wild abandon & I knew that she would be making sure I did these cupcakes perfectly for her sister.

I chose shades of coral and went big with bold embossed butterflies that I shimmered with Crystal Candy Diamond Lustre (Starburst) and centred with tiny beads of colour. The flowers I made by first embossing my paste with Crystal Candy Midnight Garden Lace Mould and then cutting out larger and smaller flowers. The centres are adorned with larger pearls in gorgeous contrasting colours. All the butterflies and flowers were added to generous swirls of white chocolate buttercream before their photographic debut!

Have a fantastic celebration tonight Kayla and the best compliment was that the first thing you wanted to do when you saw your cupcakes was to send these photos to your sister!

Christmas Flavoured Birthday Love!

Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes

After I had experimented with these Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes, my husband, Eddie, declared them the best cupcakes I had ever made! This is a huge compliment from a man who has sampled absolutely everything that has been created in the Cupcakes2Delite Kitchen. With his birthday being a week after the sampling of these cupcakes he proceeded to place his order for his birthday celebration, Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes with a sprinkling of icing sugar and nothing else.

Into the birthday cupcake batter I added cinammon, nutmeg, all-spice and then generous handfuls of plump cranberries, dried pineapple & mango and dark chocolate drops. Inspired by Eddie’s love for the simplicity in these cupcakes, I photographed them with their sprinkling of icing sugar and of course a mad helping of red polka dot cupcake holders and a red declaration of love for the man who is my world. These cupcakes will definitely be on the menu for Christmas with perhaps just a splash of Amarula Gold for total decadence.

Farewell Cupcakes

Farewell Cupcakes

Not all my Cupcakes2Delite creations are ordered for occasions that are shared with smiles and laughter. Nicola’s farewell was one of these occasions! Vee ordered Farewell Cupcakes for her daughter, Nicola, to say goodbye to her family and friends. Along with the anticipation and excitement that everyone had for Nicola in her leaving South Africa to study art in Germany, were the tears and sadness in having to say goodbye to such an amazing and talented young woman. Ceire and myself were privileged to have got to know Nicola and spend time with her through all the years of Rhythmic Gymnastics, classes and competitions the girls shared together. It was a joy to watch the girls grow and mature as both athletes and friends and we both wish Nicola an amazing future as she pursues her passion in her art studies.

Farewell Cupcakes

Tiny sugar paste suitcases with a pretty initial were perfect for these farewell themed cupcakes. The sugar paste luggage tags said a pretty blue and purple goodbye and thank you to Nicola and butterflies and puzzle pieces in both the South African and German flags show the love Nicola has for these two countries. We hope that you will be inspired Nicola in your new adventure and always carry a part of your life in South Africa wherever your journey takes you.
