British Themed Cupcakes!

British Themed CupcakesBritish Themed Cupcakes

British Themed Cupcakes were the royal order for the day as Bronwyn celebrated her 18th Birthday with her family and friends.  As she is looking forward to spending some time in the UK shortly this was one of the passions her mom suggested for her order of cupcakes. The red, white and blue colour scheme is an easy one to work with as the contrasts are perfect. I included embossed blue and red hearts, blue and red daisies with dainty white centres and the iconic underground signs to complete these themed cupcakes. The flavour Bronwyn chose was red velvet and with the creamy white cream cheese icing and colourful sugar art these cupcakes were perfect for the celebration. Thanks to Michelle for my funky red cupcake stand as it completed the cupcake display.  Wishing you a wonderful trip Bronwyn and may it be an adventure to remember!

Funfair Extravaganza Cupcakes!

Funfair Extravaganza CupcakesTeneille chose a colourful and fun theme for her 21st birthday party, Funfair Extravaganza, and she asked for cupcakes in pale and bright pastel colours.  Of course playing with colours and a variety of them is just up my ally so I had loads of fun making, ice-creams, balloons, pinwheels, candy lollies, flowers in a range of pastel colours.  I added colour and texture to the pinwheels by cutting 2 squares in different colours, embossed them and then placed one on top of the other before cutting them and folding them into a pinwheel shape.  Their nifty centres are blossoms cut in the matching colours placed one onto the other again with a centre.

Happy 21st Teneille!

The ice-cream cones were made using a rolled circle of sugar paste and long roll of sugar paste twirled to look like a soft serve in the cone.  The sprinkles glued on top finished off these cute additions to the theme.  In adding the 21 for some of the cupcakes, I cut out the numerals from 2 different colour sugar pastes and used them together to create the 21.  In keeping with the theme I placed the T initials on some embossed bunting.

No funfair is complete without popcorn so I baked chocolate cupcakes in small red and white cases and then added my butter icing and finished the cupcakes off with mini white marshmallows.  The overall display off the cupcakes on the candy table was effective and I was once again delighted to hear that the cupcakes were enjoyed by all the guests.  Thanks Di and Teneille for trusting me with your exciting celebration!

Personal Trainer Birthday Cake!

Bodybuilder Sugar ArtBodybuilder Sugar Art

Byron celebrated his birthday in February and I thought he deserved a cake as he has persevered with me through a year of hard work, sweat and motivation in order to get me resembling a fitter and healthier person rather than the ‘well rounded character’ I was this time last year.  As he is fit and disciplined himself I made him a delicious banana bread full of nuts, bananas and cranberries, all the healthy goodies! Thanks to Samantha Linsell from Drizzle and Dip.com for what has to be the best banana bread recipe ever!

This personal trainer was my first attempt at a male figure and he turned out quite cute with his naughty face, Nike shirt, Adidas shoes and of course the kettle bell and extra weights for his training session. Happy Birthday Byron and delighted you were surprised with your cake!

Note to self after making this male figure I am officially allowed to study the male form more closely and more often to get an even better result next time!

Beautiful in Shades of Blue!

Wendy Branfield's 50th Cupcakes Shades of Blue 50th Cake & Cupcakes

Wendy celebrated her 50th birthday last September in a tranquil setting with her family and friends and I was delighted not only to be invited to share her celebration with her but also to make the cupcakes for her special day. Wendy’s only requests were that they were to have a floral theme, that I used shades of blue to match the arrangements of roses that she had specifically ordered for the tables and that I decorated some of the cupcakes with a sugarpaste topping and the others with buttercream.  This was the 2nd time I had done sugarpaste covered cupcakes and the result was dainty and beautiful blue cupcakes that were perfect for the occasion.  Wendy is a vivacious, cheerful and loyal person and is always gracious and complementary about the skills and talents of all her family and friends and her celebration was a perfect tribute to the beautiful woman that she is.

Happy Birthday Ceire

With all the house and kitchen alterations last year, my baking continued but my blogging was erratic and not all my cupcakes ended up in individual posts.  These are some of the cupcakes from last year I made inspired by family and friends for different occasions.  Thanks to my wonderful husband we now have a beautiful new home and I have a magnificent new kitchen in which to create beautiful cupcakes and sugar art to delight all my customers. Catherine, you kindly and selflessly loaned us your beautiful home and kitchen for us to continue our lives in while we were out of our own home so thanks to you I was still able to bake and take orders. Ceire’s birthday fell in October just before we moved back home so she had very simple but pretty Green Flower cupcakes to celebrate her birthday.

Clowning Around!

Clown Cakes

Michelle and Hayley celebrated their birthdays a week apart so we had a joint celebration at scrapbooking for them in October last year.  They are both beautiful women so fairies on the cakes would have been totally appropriate but as I was feeling more adventurous and Grace Stevens’ new book Celebration Cakes was beckoning me to try something new I bravely made these 2 clown figurines for the first time.  Not sure why I had taken so long to try something new as Grace explains and demonstrates so clearly in her book each step for every figurine.  I loved the 2 really naughty and cute clowns that I created and they were a delight sitting on their individual cakes.  Their naughty faces and bright cheerful colours were perfect for Michelle and Hayley who are bright characters in our class and always make us smile and laugh with their comments and stories.  We work hard but my title for this post “Clowning Around” can definitely be applied to many a Wednesday morning!
