Pearl Figurine Class with Vicci!

Mermaid Figurine CakePearl Figurine Class with VicciThe Pearl Figurine class with Vicci of Victoria Bean Bakery was a class Vicci gave earlier this year. I have this figurine in my display cabinet and she fills me with delight every time I see her as she has the sweetest and most innocent face and sitting on her rock she looks like she has not a care in the world! Not only is it always a pleasure to learn new skills from such an awesome teacher but it is loads of fun meeting other decorators and sharing different ideas and experiences with each other. Thank you Vicci for yet another awesome class!

Angela’s Quilled Centre Cupcakes

Cupcakes for a Quilling Lover

I tried out these bright coral quilled sugar paste centres to contrast with the embossed pastel yellow flowers for these cupcakes. They were for Angela, a friend who does the most pretty and colourful quilled designs. As she loves quilling which requires loads of patience I thought I would use that as the theme for her birthday cupcakes. I think that the paper art of quilling may be a little easier as the sugar paste strips do not behave as well as paper and need to be curled before they dry but it was loads of fun trying out this new idea.

Pug Face Cupcakes

Pug CupcakesKeeping up with the ‘doggie’ sweet sugar theme for my posts this weekend, and yes because Cupcakes2Delite does enjoy going ‘barking mad’ sometimes, I am blogging these adorable Pug Cupcakes. I cannot take credit for the design or the making of these cupcake toppers as I asked Paige to help me with these during her practical training hours spent with me. I am really chuffed with her help and talent as they are just too delightful. Paige with her artistic flair created these pug faces for an order that Sharon gave me for her daugher Chloe’s birthday. I have to admit that although all my clients love their orders when they fetch them and greet my sugar creations with oohs and aahs, I have never had a reaction quite like Chloe’s reaction to her surprise order from her mom. She was amazed, delighted and so thankful all in the same instant and these reactions are the reason I just love creating in sugar. Thank you Sharon for your order and thanks Chloe for making my sugar year!

Sweet Labrador Cake for Lisa

Labrador Birthday Cake

This celebration cake had to depict everything that is so special about our scrapbooking teacher, Lisa, and I was so delighted that it did. The cake itself had to be a vegan chocolate cake as Lisa herself is vegan and I used a delicious vegan chocolate cake recipe given to me by a friend. The Lindt Chilli Chocolate ganache thinned with a trickle of chocolate soya milk is just the perfect finish for this cake which is totally scrumptious whether you are vegan or not! As Lisa is the most gentle of all animal lovers, this sugar paste labrador  was the perfect character to add a smile to Lisa’s day. Once again we had a celebration which not only included, cake, tasty eats and presents but also loads of laughs and great spirit. Thanks Lisa for being the amazingly caring, kind and gentle person you are and for looking after all the furry and sometimes not so furry friends that pop into your life just knowing they will be safe with you!

Dora the Explorer CakeAs my previous post was a Backpack Cake I thought I would include this Dora the Explorer Backpack Cake in my blogging today. When Thando celebrated her 3rd birthday her mom asked me to do a Dora the Explorer Cake and Cupcakes! This cute character was fun to do in sugar paste and the little faces for the cupcakes were really cute and easy to do! My camera loved the bright colours just as much as I did!!!

Brandon’s 21st Backpack Cake!

What a privilege it was to celebrate Brandon’s 21st Birthday with him, his family and his friends.  As a mother we always hope that our own children will choose friends who will touch and influence their lives in a positive way.  Brandon has been that friend to my son Teigh since their early days in primary school and it is amazing to have watched their friendship develop into what it is today. It would be difficult to not want to be Brandon’s friend as he has a funny, quirky, friendly and deeply genuine personality as well as a rather naughty glint in his eyes. The glint I am sure comes from both his passion for the night sky as well as his passion for travel and keen sense of adventure. Michelle, his mom, had the idea of a backpack for his birthday cake and that is how this bright blue and black cake developed into his 21st Birthday Cake.

Ready for Adventure!

I covered the board for the cake in white fondant, stencilled the board with blue smudges and then added an edible print of 3 brochures Brandon had perused for his travel adventures. The Backpack Cake consists of 2 tiered cakes, the first a chocolate fudge cake and the second a coffee cake which I stacked and then carved into the backpack. I covered the cake in blue sugar paste and then added black straps and pocket details as well as stitching and zip details. The final addition was the edible ticket and passport. Brandon thank you for your friendship and may this be just the beginning of all the adventures you are sure to have as a young adult!
