Whimsical Wedding Cupcakes

Wedding Cupcakes

I was so excited to once again be able to do one of Grace Stevens‘ Johannesburg workshops in July. Grace presented a number of workshops with the theme, Whimsical Wedding.  As I have never done fondant covered cupcakes, I was really keen to do the Whimsical Wedding Cupcakes.  You can see Grace’s deft hands in motion in the photos above as she showed us how to not only cover a cupcake in fondant but how to emboss the fondant and then decorate the cupcakes with pretty roses, flowers and pearls. Below I have shown my roses in the making in shades of pastel rose and yellow and my embossed sugar paste ready for my cupcakes.

Whimsical Wedding Workshop

Grace’s attention to detail in her workshops in how she creates her decorations and how she teaches made this a fantastic workshop and I am now loving working with this new technique of decorating cupcakes.  I chose a number of different embossing plates to complete my cupcakes and I was delighted with the light fresh colour combinations for the roses and pearls.  Thank you again Grace for sharing your knowledge with us in such a fun environment, I can’t wait until your next trip to Johannesburg!

Teddy Bear Christening Cake

Teddy Bear Christening Cake

Teddy Bear Christening Cake

A Teddy Bear Cake especially ordered by Lisa (TQO)’s for the christening of her god-child, Calla Grace.  I was excited to craft another teddy, this time a pale pink one with brown nose and white trim.  I am amazed that every time I make a teddy I am transported back to Grace Stevens class where I first learned to work with sugar paste in this way and I love that I am able to remember each step she taught us in this particular class.  Lisa requested a pillow cake covered in white sugar paste with a pretty embossed bib on it and then also wanted Calla Grace’s name included in the design.  Thanks Lisa for this gorgeous order and great design which made it really easy for me to envision and put together.  I loved meeting all your family and your beautiful god-child Calla Grace.

Teddy Bear Cake for Lisa(TQO)

Pink Teddy Bear Cake

Lisa(TQO) was the first of the 3 Lisa’s to celebrate her birthday this year during our Wednesday scrapbooking class a few weeks ago.  As this was the 3rd birthday that I was privileged to celebrate with Lisa I wanted to make her a cake which would portray her passions and character in fun way.  Lisa makes the most beautiful handmade bears as gifts for the special people in her life and we have seen a few of them with their delightful faces and accessories.  This little pink bear (we knicknamed her Lisa) was the perfect sugar accessory for Lisa’s cake and I had such fun making her after learning how to mould bears during one of Grace Stevens’ classes this year.  I have to add here that Grace is such a great teacher that after making just one bear with her, I was so pleased that I remembered everything she had taught us and for the 2nd bear I have made in my sugarcraft years, I think she is rather cute!

Pink Teddy Bear Cake

If I had to paint a couple of pictures of Lisa, they would all portray a beautiful, fun-loving and caring friend and if I had to choose only one it would be a picture of Lisa going out to friend’s of hers to watch Will and Kate’s Royal Wedding all beautifully dressed up for the occasion with her pretty hat for the day.  There were cupcakes, pearls and roses of course that had to accompany Lisa that day and I can only imagine the raucous fun that was shared on that Royal Day!  Needless to say Teddy Lisa had to have a pretty hat and bow too and her cake had to have roses to complete it.  Lisa loves her quiliting so I made a sugar embossed and ‘stitched’ quilt for her to perch her pretty pink teddy bear butt on. Lisa, our forever imaginative teacher, added the 50 ‘something’ candle to the cake.  Most importantly she had to have soft rolled blankets close to her because equally close to Lisa’s heart are the children that she teaches and loves at the children’s home.  Once again Lisa selflessly asked for gifts of blankets for these children to cuddle up with instead of gifts for herself and what a beautiful and colourful array of cosy blankets she received for these children.  Thank you Lisa for colouring our lives with your humour, your generosity and your sense of fun every Wednesday and have fun with the children warm this winter in their cuddly blankets.

Pale Pink & Blue Flower Cupcakes

Pink & Blue Flower Cupcakes

Pink & Blue Flower CupcakesThank you Allison for including my cupcakes in the scrapbookers retreat you hosted at the Botanical Gardens recently.  When you placed this order, I thought of your passion for scrapbooking and wanted the flowers on these cupcakes to resemble the paper flowers we add to many of our scrapbook pages.  Having also recently done Grace Stevens’ workshop, Filler Flowers, I felt more confident at experimenting with dusting these veined sugarpaste white flowers with Rolkem’s colours in hues of pink, lilac and blue.  As every scrapbooker has a bit of bling in her stash of goodies, I couldn’t resist adding these blingy pink and green pearls as the flower centres.  I hope you and all the scrapbookers on your retreat had a beautiful day in such a peaceful and creative setting.

Paint the Town Red with these Cupcakes!

This colour combination was a perfect choice when Sarita ordered cupakes to celebrate her friend’s birthday.  She asked me to do flowers and butterflies in shades of red and pink.  The variety of embossed and veined sugarpaste flowers and pretty butterflies were perfect for these delicious red velvet cupcakes with their piped cream cheese icing.  Thank you for another order Sarita and for knowing this friend so well you could describe the perfect cupcakes for her.

A Night at the Oscars

Craig celebrated his 21st with an Oscars Themed party for his guests and his mom, Adele, asked me to do cupcakes for the occasion.  I created red carpets, ticket stubs, old fashioned movie reels, tuxedos and evening dresses, envelopes, directors’ boards and of course popcorn boxes from sugar paste.  I added these to vanilla iced red velvet & vanilla cupcakes.  These cupcakes were loads of fun to make and I was so delighted to see how they fitted in so perfectly to the elegantly decorated hall that Adele had so perfectly planned for her son’s 21st.  Thanks again for your order Adele and I was delighted to hear that everyone enjoyed their cupcakes.
