Preggy Lady Topper & Cupcakes

Preggy Lady Cake TopperAfter Candy celebrated her 30th Birthday with her cute Baby Animal Cupcakes, it was with great excitement that her mom, Michelle sent me an email asking me to do a Preggy Lady Cake Topper and cupcakes for her Stork Party.

Her opening lines of her email read: “

My daughter Candice’s stork party date is set….20th August. Yay!!!! So obviously had to drop the best in the bizz a note for a cake topper and 12 of your delicious cupcakes.

We have chosen a theme, it is flowers…flowers….flowers, ‘girlie girlie’ and baby rocking horses, baby teddy’s and baby bunnies….all the toys Candy loved as a baby!!! Candy and her hubby have opted not to find out the baby’s gender so please can you mix muted soft baby colours, white, pale pink, pale blue, silver, tan/sand and washed green.”

After reading Michelle’s email request and receiving pictures of Candy and inspiration for the cupcake toppers, I couldn’t resist to make this Cake Topper as perfectly as I could for this family occasion. My petite sugar Candy started off with the most beautiful preggy bump and warm smile and I can’t resist showing you her here below before she was decently clad in her pretty pink dress and funky boots. Her tiny sugar teddies and rabbits are looking on in wonder at this miracle of sugar nature as they wait for their cupcakes.

Sugar Paste Teddies & Rabbits

I hope when I reach this exciting chapter of my life with my own daughter, that I will be just as excited to celebrate a new grandchild in my family. Part of Michelle’s excitement was her inspiration picture of a preggy lady and a pram and as the pram could not be conjured up in my own sugar brain, I turned to my sugar guru friend and teacher Pat, of CakesbyPat and asked her to make the pram for this Cake Topper. Well Pat you made Michelle’s day as she was delighted that the pram was included in the topper!

In fact Michelle cried tears of delight as she saw the topper and that just has to be the best reward for any cake decorator! Clients like you Michelle just inspire me. Here is Candy with her pram and her teddy, rabbit, rocking horse (childhood toys) ready for her new baby.

Finally it was the turn of the cute sugar paste teddies, rabbits, preggy bellies, prams and rocking horses to be added to their individual swirls of vanilla iced, passion fruit and white chocolate cupcakes. They could not wait to be part of such a fun celebration. White floral cupcake holders and Aragon Minikin flowers completed the flower part of the theme for the day.  Thank you again Michelle for the thought and care that went into this order for Candy’s Stork Party.

When Michelle contacted me with great excitement with this order of Baby Animal Cupcakes for her daughter, Candy’s, 30th Birthday, it was a chance for me to go all ‘cutesy’ with these cupcake toppers. Following families through special occasions and having awesome repeat clients such as Michelle makes it all the more fun to create!  Michelle’s last order were the Wedding Thank You Cupcakes  for all Candy’s bridesmaids and this was a chance for Cupcakes2Delite to be part of her 30th Birthday to be celebrated in the Bush with family and friends. The pastel baby animals were a perfect addition for an expecting mother.

Cute pastel yellow giraffes, baby pink hippos and blue ellies grinned in between cupcakes with preggy dresses and cupcakes with animal print 30’s. I would normally end off my post here with a big thank you to Michelle for her order but I have to end with a huge thank you as this order of gorgeous cupcakes in Michelle’s words….”did not travel well. I think the distance, bumpy dirt roads and heat in the vehicle did not bode well with them….so sorry, I really did try and transport them as gently as possible! However there is a happy ending!!!! Nobody wanted to eat the cupcakes that were displayed on the birthday table!!! Problem when things are so perfect! 😉 Instead they chose to eat the slightly ‘smooshed ‘ cupcakes from the box, which although not perfect in appearance made up for it in taste…they were absolutely scrumptious!!!”

This was the first time an order has not arrived as I made it and I was completely devastated and offered to make Michelle an order of cupcakes for a dinner party to make up for it. She declined this saying…“That is so sweet of you but there is absolutely no way I would ever consider taking you up on your kind offer. The cupcakes which I managed to salvage were beautiful and the rest were delicious and did the job they were meant to…they were eaten and enjoyed and that is all that is important!!!”

You are a wonderful and most gracious client Michelle and such a loving mother to Candy and it is a always a pleasure to bake for you.

Vegan Chocolate Cake Celebration

Celebrating Lisa's Birthday

Loves all round for Lisa

After Lisa (TQO) celebrated her 60th birthday in style, it was time for us to celebrate our teacher Lisa’s birthday. We celebrated with everything pretty and pink and even Pebbles was tickled pink with her loves from Lisa. Pebbles was also tail waggingly happy when she was presented with her party pack of carrot doggy treats from Lisa (TQO)!

We all went vegan for the day from our tasty food, dessert and of course the cake. I made a Vegan Chocolate Cake (can’t thank Shayna enough for sharing her recipe with me) which is totally delicious. I generously topped it with a creamy Chilli Lindt chocolate ganache made with chocolate soya milk. Pretty plump strawberries and vanilla popcorn were a perfect topping to Lisa’s celebration cake.

All in all we had a perfectly pink birthday celebration, fun from the start with Lisa (TQO) brandishing her pink feather duster and ‘French maid’s outfit’ through to a wonderful group photo of Les Scrapbooking Girls. Thank you Lisa for being the reason we all met in the first place, the reason we laugh, get up to mischief and celebrate being together every Wednesday. We love your quiet soul, gentle personality, your creative spirit and your deep passion and love for every living soul on this earth!

Orange Flower Drizzle Cake

Once again Wendy ordered this cake with a great deal of thought and caring for her friend Faith’s 50th Birthday. She wanted a delicious and pretty cake in Faith’s favourite colours; orange and yellow. The cake itself had a layer of vanilla sponge and a layer of passionfruit sponge covered with an ombre pale orange to white vanilla buttercream. I melted Compound Candy Melts with some cream and gently poured over the top of the cooled iced cake and allowed the chocolate to fall in the drizzle style so popular at the moment.

Orange ruffled flowers with bright yellow centres, yellow rolled roses, Aragon Forget Me Nots and lime green leaves finish off the top of the cake and after wrapping a pretty orange ribbon around the board I sprinkled Aragon Choc Rocks, watermelon to finish off the presentation of the cake.

Wendy’s tribute words about Faith: “Faith is  a ladies Pastor. She is a good friend and has really been there for me. She prays for me always, is so encouraging and has stood by me when things have been really tough. She has a real caring heart”.

These Boots are made for walking……

Cowgirl Sugar Paste Boots

Cowgirl Sugar Paste Boots

It is quite appropriate, after having celebrated Women’s Day here in South Africa on the 9th  of August, to post these really pretty pink girlie Cowgirl Boots I made for a client last week. Arusha asked me to make a pair of boots for a cake order she had for a young girl’s birthday. After searching the internet for a pattern for cowgirl boots and finding some rather odd looking examples, I decided to buy a child’s pair of wellington boots and form these boots around the original boots. I added my black modelling chocolate pieces onto the boots, cut and added stitching detail to the paste, allowed them to dry for a few hours and then removed the front and back pieces carefully from the wellingtons.

The pink embossed pieces I added once the black boots were dry once again adding stitching detail. The last addition were clusters of Aragon minikins, to complete a pair of boots any cowgirl would be proud to show off! Arusha I wish your young client many happy birthdays as she grows into a young woman and may she proud to walk in the footsteps of the brave young South African women who have walked before her.

Succulent Cupcake Gift

Succulent Cupcakes in a Pot

It has been fun to watch over the years how my blog posts are being followed by people all over the world and I have had a few interesting requests including supplying cupcakes for a hotel in London and delivering cupcakes to a wedding in Kensington in the UK. This is a trifle tricky if your are based as I am in Johannesburg, South Africa. There are times, however, that I have been able to help an international client from Australia and London and this order was one of them.

Tendai contacted me from the UK and asked if I could make Succulent Cupcakes for a friend celebrating their birthday in South Africa. It was such an orginal gesture of hers and a fun surprise to do for her friend. As her friend is a bit of a succulent guru and has a garden full of them I made sugar paste succulents as true to nature as I could and popped them on  “potted cupcakes” topped with crushed Oreos for soil. I was able to deliver a beautiful tray of cupcakes to an awesome young guy and Tendai you really made his day remembering his passion for succulents and surprising him with this sweet gift!
