Bride & Groom, Romance & Lace

Bride & Groom (Lace) Figurines

Inspired by the photo of this bride’s exquisite lace dress for her wedding day, the groom’s elegant suit and the fun photos of this couple together, I created this Bride and Groom Sugar Paste Couple for Mandy-Lou of Annah-Fudge Gourmet Cupcakes.  After having tried every sugar paste available on our South African market for modelling faces and figurines, I am delighted to say I finally found one that is just so easy to use for modelling and that is, Zeelandia Sugar Paste. It is not quite as magnificent as the Italian modelling paste I have been privileged to use but it rushes up to the winning post as a really close 2nd.  It is beautifully pliable and does not get the cracks and quick drying out flaws that our other pastes so easily get. It also colours beautifully with gel and powder colours. A huge thank you to Kelly Jayne’s in Decor Park for stocking this wonderful paste, it has made a huge difference to the quality of my modelling work and is saving me loads of  time with it being so easy to use. No more tearing my hair out to create beautiful faces! These 2 characters perfectly show off the soft translucency of this paste for figurine work.

The Zeelandia paste was also perfect for this bride’s dress as I needed it to fall as elegantly and simply as the actual wedding dress. I draped the paste on my petite figurine and then added the lace detail of the dress by first making some lace using the Crystal Candy Midnight Garden Lace Silicone Mould and their Crystal Lace-Signature Blend. The lace mimicked the intricate details of the brides lace dress and with this lace detail I was able to capture the open lacey back of the dress with the added pearls for the button detail. No wonder this sugar bride looks so beautifully radiant and serene showing off her gorgeous dress. The sugar groom was not to be totally outshone by his bride and he is proudly wearing his long-tailed jacket and bright purple cravat and waist coat. Once again Zeelandia paste to my rescue for the soft cuff, tails and collar details of his crisp white shirt. Wishing this couple all joy and love as they begin their journey as husband and wife!

Cream & Burgundy Wedding

Cream & Burgundy Wedding Cake & Cupcakes

Karel and Amanda were married early in September in the tranquil and beautiful grounds of Glen Afric with their close family and friends and of course the gentle company of the Glen Afric wild life. It was a complete surprise for me that I was able watch as this wonderful couple arrived to their reception set out in the shaded gardens of Glen Afric. They were accompanied by a mother elephant and her 2 babies who then stood and fed quietly as the couple had photographs taken with their guests. What a peaceful way to begin a wedding celebration.

From the moment I met Karel and Amanda at our first ‘cake consultation’, I knew that taking part in their celebration would be perfect. It did help that they were both enticed by my cupcake testers with their pretty heart toppers and that they loved the idea of being represented in sugar on their wedding cake. They were a fun couple to reproduce in sugar, Karel strong and dapper in his wedding suit and cream cravat and Amanda petite in her beautiful white rouched lace wedding dress and gorgeous blonde curls. They sat very happily on their wedding cake iced to suit the natural theme of their wedding.

Wishing this special couple many years of holding each other’s hands, sharing gentle loving gestures and laughter as they start this exciting chapter in their lives.

The matching cupcakes I iced with a dreamy coffee buttercream swirl and added the sugar paste embossed hearts and rolled roses that Amanda chose in cream and burgundy. Tiny non pareils and dragees sprinkled into the folds of the buttercream completed the look of the cupcakes and  Champagne pearls added the final touch around the bottom of the cake. Dainty filigree cupcake holders were perfect for these cupcakes which I placed tiered below the cake on a natural log stand. Thank you Karel and Amanda for trusting me on your wedding day and for being such a delightful couple to create for.

Amy & Rick’s Wedding Cake Topper

Bride & Groom Sugar Art

Congratulations Amy & Rick!

It was a glorious Saturday for Amy and Rick’s Wedding Day and their wedding cupcake topper looked perfect on a beautiful wedding cake and cupcake display by Janet and Kate. This sugar bride and groom had the best view of the day in the tranquil Kloofzicht setting and they were the first to see the bride and groom and their guests walking up to them after the wedding ceremony.

Amy had a picture of a bride coaxing her groom away from the 19th hole and this was the inspiration for the sugar couple. Rick was fun to create and with his gentle face and broad smile it was easy to portray a naughty groom not quite willing to leave his golf bag. Tracy, who made the most beautiful mother of the bride on the day, gave me photos of Rick and his golf bag and I tried to make as close a likeness to both him and his bag. (Thanks here to Angela for the golf clubs which along with the veil were the only non-edible elements in this design). I have to say that my groom here has a cheeky look but he looks really keen to be getting married to his gorgeous girl!

The Groom …

Amy was exquisitely radiant in all her wedding photos and I tried to capture her petite face and soft hair from the photos I had of her. I knew her dress had lace detail and silver detail around the waist and so I embossed my white sugar paste with a fine floral pattern before draping on her sugar torso. Tiny silver beads around her waist and the stitching and bow at the back completed her delicate dress. I added blonde sugar curls to Amy’s head and then attached a fine veil,(thanks Lisa TQO), before completing her hair with a blonde fringe. I made her a tiny bouquet of white roses for her to hold. My bride looks just as happy as her groom standing next to him.

The Bride …

It was a pleasure Amy and Rick to make these characters for your wedding cake and my wish for you is that you take all the joy, friendship, hardwork and meticulous planning that went into your special day and use it in the rest of your married life together!
