This celebration cake had to depict everything that is so special about our scrapbooking teacher, Lisa, and I was so delighted that it did. The cake itself had to be a vegan chocolate cake as Lisa herself is vegan and I used a delicious vegan chocolate cake recipe given to me by a friend. The Lindt Chilli Chocolate ganache thinned with a trickle of chocolate soya milk is just the perfect finish for this cake which is totally scrumptious whether you are vegan or not! As Lisa is the most gentle of all animal lovers, this sugar paste labrador was the perfect character to add a smile to Lisa’s day. Once again we had a celebration which not only included, cake, tasty eats and presents but also loads of laughs and great spirit. Thanks Lisa for being the amazingly caring, kind and gentle person you are and for looking after all the furry and sometimes not so furry friends that pop into your life just knowing they will be safe with you!

Dora Explores the Cake World!
As my previous post was a Backpack Cake I thought I would include this Dora the Explorer Backpack Cake in my blogging today. When Thando celebrated her 3rd birthday her mom asked me to do a Dora the Explorer Cake and Cupcakes! This cute character was fun to do in sugar paste and the little faces for the cupcakes were really cute and easy to do! My camera loved the bright colours just as much as I did!!!
Brandon’s 21st Backpack Cake!
What a privilege it was to celebrate Brandon’s 21st Birthday with him, his family and his friends. As a mother we always hope that our own children will choose friends who will touch and influence their lives in a positive way. Brandon has been that friend to my son Teigh since their early days in primary school and it is amazing to have watched their friendship develop into what it is today. It would be difficult to not want to be Brandon’s friend as he has a funny, quirky, friendly and deeply genuine personality as well as a rather naughty glint in his eyes. The glint I am sure comes from both his passion for the night sky as well as his passion for travel and keen sense of adventure. Michelle, his mom, had the idea of a backpack for his birthday cake and that is how this bright blue and black cake developed into his 21st Birthday Cake.
I covered the board for the cake in white fondant, stencilled the board with blue smudges and then added an edible print of 3 brochures Brandon had perused for his travel adventures. The Backpack Cake consists of 2 tiered cakes, the first a chocolate fudge cake and the second a coffee cake which I stacked and then carved into the backpack. I covered the cake in blue sugar paste and then added black straps and pocket details as well as stitching and zip details. The final addition was the edible ticket and passport. Brandon thank you for your friendship and may this be just the beginning of all the adventures you are sure to have as a young adult!
Lisa (TQO) Celebrates her Birthday!
If there is one friend I have who really knows how to celebrate birthdays or actually anything else really….that is Lisa (TQO). Earlier this year Lisa Scrapbooking hosted us at her home and prepared a delicious lunch for us all to celebrate Lisa’s (TQO) birthday. I…another Lisa….Lisa Cupcake, for short, made the birthday cake for the day. The cake was a delicious Irish Cream Cake with an ivory buttercream covering. I added pretty embossed detail into the buttercream by placing the Crystal Candy Lace mat against the buttercream and pressing gently against the cake. As Lisa loves flowers I added pale white roses with a blush of pink to the top of the cake. The cake in the background above is a vegan chocolate cake, doused with Lindt chilli chocolate ganache and pomegranate seeds.
Needless to say we had a wonderful time celebrating and Lisa as always was totally delighted with her cake. Sorry it took so long to blog Lisa but happy birthday and here’s to next year’s cake!
Girl in a Yellow Dress Cake
Azinza’s mom asked me to make a cake for Azinza’s birthday and she sent me a picture of her daughter. In this figurine I tried to capture her innocence, her bright bold eyes and her braided hair. She is sitting on a pastel blue, yellow and pink ruffled cake which has a dainty Crystal Candy lace topping. The lace & yellow sugar paste butterflies complete the cake perfect for a little girl’s birthday.
Blue Fairy Figurine Cake with Vicci!
The Blue Fairy Figurine Cake was another exciting class we did with Vicci of Victoria Bean Bakery a while ago. We made a 2 tier cake, handpainted, embossed and draped with Crystal Candy Lace. Our Blue Fairies flew on top of our cakes with their cute faces, dainty blue petal tunics and their pretty lace wings. We were all delighted with our completed cakes and a fun day spent in awesome creativity.
I added some sugar paste butterflies, whimsical flowers, edible pebbles and a satin finished, embossed petal covered board to complement the cake.
