Zeelandia Demo at Kelly Jayne’s

Jayne and Kelly with Reinhard Leopold from Zeelandia and a delicious Cake on a Stick.

Jayne and Kelly (Kelly Jayne’s) with Reinhard Leopold (Zeelandia) and a delicious Cake on a Stick.

On Friday I popped into Kelly Jayne’s for a demonstration on Macarons and Cake on a Stick using the Zeelandia products. Reinhard Leopold converted the Zeelandia French Macaron Mix and the Cake on a Stick Mix into delicious goodies for us to taste. He demonstated how with accurate weighing, timed mixing and then accurate baking these declicious treats can be made at home. The macarons were all sampled before I had a chance to photograph any and in the photo above the Cake on a Stick was easily decorated with the Zeelandia dips (chocolate and cherry, 2 of the 8 flavours available). I chatted to Kelly and Jayne who will stock these Zeelandia pre mixes in their beautiful new shop situated in Decor Park.

As a baker it is great to see the different products offered in new shops I visit.  Kelly Jayne’s Cake Boutique stocks a wide variety of products beautifully displayed in their shop and coffee shop. Gorgeous cupcakes and aromatic cappuccinos would entice any customer to stop a while during their perusing and take a seat at pretty silver tables and chairs. Kelly’s own wedding cake is on display as well as their award winning Buddy Valastro Wedding Cake. They also offer a number of classes in their shop and details can be found on their facebook page.

No new product is quite the same unless I have shared it with my family and friends for their approval. The Cake on a Stick was fortunate enough to be shared with my daughter who loved it!

Red Hat Society 60th Birthday Cupcakes

Red Hat Society 60th Birthday Cupcakes

Pat had the idea to use as the inspiration for her 60th Birthday celebration the Red Hat Society. When we were growing, up as she explained to me, we were told that red and purple were not ideal colours to wear together. However as you turn 50 you are then officially old enough to do exactly as you please and red and purple then become totally acceptable! Luckily here in South Africa we live in a vibrant society where people throw colours together with exuberant abandon.  I took the inspiration from a drawing I googled under the Red Hat Society and then another from a photograph of one of the lady’s hats in the Society. The first hat is a soft-brimmed hat adorned with a daisy embossed ribbon and tiny red flower and the second hat is a smarter hat with a rouched band and rolled sugar paste roses to resemble ribbon roses. The remainder of the cupcakes I adorned with embossed purple flowers and open red roses with purple pearly centres.

Pat’s thank you to me : “Thank you for the most divine cupcakes. They were a great hit.”  It was a pleasure Pat and so chuffed to experiment with this colour combination.

Purple Fairy Cake

Last Saturday Bianca celebrated her 21st Birthday with her family and friends and Sophie trusted me with her special cake for the evening. This cake had to be extra special for a number of reasons. Sophie wanted Bianca to have everything she had been looking for in a cake; her favourite colour purple, a bit of bling and something feminine and beautiful. This particular 2 tiered cake is based on an exquisite cake from Kek Couture and as Sophie loved the picture I adapted it to fit with Bianca’s celebration. The sugar modelling work of Kek Couture is inspirational in itself and I had to be able to do justice to this beautiful idea. The Purple Fairy had to be beautiful as Sophie sent me pictures of Bianca for me to use as a model for this pretty fairy and I was so delighted to hear that Bianca loved her fairy. When I delivered the cake, this little fairy with her painted rice paper wings looked so content sitting on her bejeweled and flowered cake in an exquisitely decorated room for the evening.

Finally Bianca’s cake had to be just that extra special as Sophie was my son’s primary school teacher 18 year’s ago and Teigh not only adored her but thrived in her class. Sophie was then and is still an inspiration to the young children she teaches. Bianca clearly has a special place in Sophie’s heart and in creating this cake I knew it would bring a smile to Bianca’s face and also say a huge thank you to another beautiful, caring and loving woman in my life.

May your 21st year be as beautiful as you are Bianca!

Peach Rose Cupcakes

Peach Rose Cupcakes

Yesterday I posted my pretty Cream & Gold Cupcakes I made for Tracy’s birthday so it is perfect to follow that post with these cupcakes I made for Angela’s birthday.  I used the same Crystal Candy fun flower choc art discs  and embossed white sugar paste circles. Using a bright warm yellow and pastel peach edible colourings, I painted in the details of the embossed disc and added rolled sugarpaste centres to the embossed daisies.  I let these discs dry overnight before popping them on to a few of the lime flavoured cupcakes. The remaining cupcakes were decorated each with a trio of pastel peach and cream rolled roses. Happy Birthday Angela and once again always a pleasure to experiment with some new and beautiful cupcake ideas for you!

Cream & Gold Flower Cupcakes

Cream & Gold Flower Cupcakes

Wendy was delighted to have her beautiful daughter home recently to celebrate her birthday.  No birthday for a gorgeous girl would be complete without carefully ordered cupcakes from Cupcakes2Delite. For Tracy, Wendy asked me to do cupcakes in cream and gold. I wanted each cupcake to be special and have a different combination of the cream and gold colouring.  The soft rolled roses were perfect accompanied by a textured and painted gold leaf. I included a couple of ruffled cream flowers with pretty gold centres and completed the order with a couple of cupcakes covered with and embossed sugarpaste topper and rolled roses. These particular embossed templates are a new release from Crystal Candy. They are their Fun Flowers Choc Art disc moulds which I used to emboss the sugarpaste before cutting out with a circle cutter and adding to my buttercream iced cupcake.  The words, Live, Laugh & Love & the outlined daisies are so pretty on any cupcake for a special occasion. Thanks Wendy for choosing Tracy’s favourite colours for her order. It was great to hear that these cupcakes were enjoyed by friends and family in Johannesburg and the remainder were enjoyed by friends in Cape Town.
