Yellow Flower Cupcakes for Gaby!

Yellow Flower Cupcakes

Yellow Flower Cupcakes

Gaby celebrated her 18th birthday yesterday with family and friends and as she has the most gorgeously warm and sunny personality and just because yellow happens to be her favourite colour, I made an array of Yellow Flower Cupcakes for her. Ceire mentioned that she loves sunflowers so I added  a couple of 2 toned sunflowers with chocolatey brown centres and then I made sugar paste ruffled flowers in shades of valencia, sunflower and mimosa. The final flowers were the 5-petaled flowers. I made these with daisy embossed flower paste in the same shades and added mixed pastel non-pareils and then bright yellow embossed centres. To seal the deal on the yellow theme for the day I made passion fruit and white chocolate cupcakes and added a creamy swirl of pale yellow buttercream before adding the bright yellow array of flowers.

To our beautiful Gaby, it has been so great watching you grow all these years into the beautiful young woman you are today. May your sunny disposition take you into many more hearts and wonderful memories as you start on a new adventure in your life.

One of the tiniest guests of the party loving his cupcake….. just made my day!

Teacher & Gym Themed Cupcakes

Teacher & Gym Themed Cupcakes

I have been baking cupcakes, making themed toppers and helping add to memorable celebrations now since 2011 and have been blessed with amazing customers whose awesome comments only want me to do better each time they order from me. These cupcakes were ordered by a new customer who asked me to do these as a gift for 2 friends, one a teacher and one a gym-lover. As per usual I made unique and individual toppings for these 2 orders. They were baked and decorated and ready to fetch on Tuesday last week at the request of this customer. I received one excuse after the other as to why she could not fetch these cupcakes (I had even made 2 offers to deliver on the Tuesday) and at 8pm Thursday was still waiting for them to be collected! What flaws me is that would she order croissants from a bakery on a Tuesday and then expect them to be fresh by the Friday if collected so late? Unfortunately I had to tell her I had taken it that the order was cancelled as she had made no effort to collect these for her friends and even if she had they would no longer have been fresh by the Friday!

Unfortunately for these friends they lost out on beautiful custom made cupcakes but fortunately for me this is the first time I have had this happen in 6 years of baking so can only say I am so grateful for the wonderful customers I do have and I love that you trust me with your orders again and again!

Bride & Groom, Romance & Lace

Bride & Groom (Lace) Figurines

Inspired by the photo of this bride’s exquisite lace dress for her wedding day, the groom’s elegant suit and the fun photos of this couple together, I created this Bride and Groom Sugar Paste Couple for Mandy-Lou of Annah-Fudge Gourmet Cupcakes.  After having tried every sugar paste available on our South African market for modelling faces and figurines, I am delighted to say I finally found one that is just so easy to use for modelling and that is, Zeelandia Sugar Paste. It is not quite as magnificent as the Italian modelling paste I have been privileged to use but it rushes up to the winning post as a really close 2nd.  It is beautifully pliable and does not get the cracks and quick drying out flaws that our other pastes so easily get. It also colours beautifully with gel and powder colours. A huge thank you to Kelly Jayne’s in Decor Park for stocking this wonderful paste, it has made a huge difference to the quality of my modelling work and is saving me loads of  time with it being so easy to use. No more tearing my hair out to create beautiful faces! These 2 characters perfectly show off the soft translucency of this paste for figurine work.

The Zeelandia paste was also perfect for this bride’s dress as I needed it to fall as elegantly and simply as the actual wedding dress. I draped the paste on my petite figurine and then added the lace detail of the dress by first making some lace using the Crystal Candy Midnight Garden Lace Silicone Mould and their Crystal Lace-Signature Blend. The lace mimicked the intricate details of the brides lace dress and with this lace detail I was able to capture the open lacey back of the dress with the added pearls for the button detail. No wonder this sugar bride looks so beautifully radiant and serene showing off her gorgeous dress. The sugar groom was not to be totally outshone by his bride and he is proudly wearing his long-tailed jacket and bright purple cravat and waist coat. Once again Zeelandia paste to my rescue for the soft cuff, tails and collar details of his crisp white shirt. Wishing this couple all joy and love as they begin their journey as husband and wife!

Christmas Flavoured Birthday Love!

Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes

After I had experimented with these Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes, my husband, Eddie, declared them the best cupcakes I had ever made! This is a huge compliment from a man who has sampled absolutely everything that has been created in the Cupcakes2Delite Kitchen. With his birthday being a week after the sampling of these cupcakes he proceeded to place his order for his birthday celebration, Christmas Cranberry, Fruit & Chocolate Cupcakes with a sprinkling of icing sugar and nothing else.

Into the birthday cupcake batter I added cinammon, nutmeg, all-spice and then generous handfuls of plump cranberries, dried pineapple & mango and dark chocolate drops. Inspired by Eddie’s love for the simplicity in these cupcakes, I photographed them with their sprinkling of icing sugar and of course a mad helping of red polka dot cupcake holders and a red declaration of love for the man who is my world. These cupcakes will definitely be on the menu for Christmas with perhaps just a splash of Amarula Gold for total decadence.

Teddy & Lace Cake

Teddy & Lace CakeTeddy & Lace Cake

Thulani is a gentle, quiet man who makes us ladies magic cappuccinos and smoothies when we visit The Den at Trinityhouse, Randpark Ridge. I was showing off a couple of pictures of my Baby Shower Cake Topper to Lisa and Thulani mentioned that his daughter was turning 3 and that he would like me to make a cake for her. What could be more perfect for Dineo, celebrating her 3rd birthday with her family, than a bright pink teddy in a pastel pink tutu adorned with lace flowers cut out from a Crystal Candy, Midnight Garden lace design. The separate butterflies from this same mat I added as tiny features to the completed cake.

Teddy & Lace Cake

Dineo’s tutu-ed teddy needed a beautiful cake to sit on and I covered a decadent chocolate cake in a white chocolate ganache before covering it in a the palest of pink fondant. I used my new Crystal Candy, Will-o-the-wisp, lace mat and wrapped the cake in these delicate lace patterns allowing some of the design to gently kiss the embossed pink cake board. Mini non-pareil centred blossoms were perfect flower centres to the pretty lace and made this cake perfect for a little girl’s birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Dineo!

Owl, Flower & Butterfly Cupcakes

Owl, Flower & Butterfly Cupcakes

Georgie is always an absolute delight to bake for because when she collects her cupcakes and sees them for the first time her face lights up with the most beautiful smile. Ann asked me first to do flowers and butterflies for a Garden Themed birthday party and then when she saw sugar paste owls that I had previously made for a client she added those to her cupcake order. She said that Georgie would love the decorations in pretty pinks and limes and I added a touch of sunny yellow to accent the other colours. Georgie is a beautiful and gentle girl and I wanted her cupcakes to show that about her. I moulded owls and added tiny flowers and pretty eyelashes to make them totally girlie. Some of the owls got cute eyebrows to create a naughtier look on them.

For the sugar paste flowers I first embossed my sugar paste using my new Crystal Candy Lace Mould in their Will-o-the-Wisp design. I then used a simple 5-petal cutter to cut out the flower and again used the same mat to emboss the sugar paste centres for the flowers. I love the soft enchanting look the embossing gave these flowers. Your birthday table looked so pretty Georgie and I love that all your family and friends enjoyed your party and the cupcakes.
